I want your Jazzmaster input "input".

I thought it was called a Jack Hole. That avoids the unfortunate confusion between input and output.
Edit:
As I understand it Jack refers to a male or regular fellow, so you have lumberjack, jackhammer etc so it's like saying a hole for a male connector which could be for both input or output.

Mostly, preference comes down to how good you are about using the correct plug for the job. Most of the time, an angled plug is the thing to use if you don't want to wreck the instrument due to an inadvertent "90° abrupt removal test". The Strat jackplate is one of the few where a straight plug works well almost no matter what. Not that it's without sin, but usually you just unplug yourself if you aren't paying attention. Even that is easily mitigated by wrapping the cord around the rear strap hanger before plugging it in.
