I think the cable guy left one of his toys.

My wife found something interesting in our bedroom while we were cleaning up today.  The other day we had somebody house sit while the cable guy came to turnon the cable outlet in our bedroom so it must be his i guess.

Its a black plastic box about 2" x 3" x 6" but its not a perfect box, the sides are rounded a little. (it bulges in the middle, mabe an 1/8" more than at the ends) It has a battery compartment in the bottom.  I can't tell what batteries it uses yet because its held shut with a screw and I haven't unscrewd it yet.  And on one end it has a 1/8" jack. I don't know if its for power or audio.. but when I plug headphones into it all I get is clicks and pops.

Does anybody have a clue what the hell this thing is?

K weird. It uses a D-cell
and all that's in it is an electric motor attached to one of those rumble things.  .. so... i guess technically it's a vibrator. *cough*...  so what is the 1/8" jack for? it must not be for audio.

Seriously what the hell is this thing?

well i tried that with headphones... and all i got was the sounds your patch cord makes when you plug it into your guitar while forgetting to shut your amp off.

thats what makes me think its for power.. or something..  maybe plugging a powerbrick with those little power adapter ends into it will do something.. like make it vibrate... or something.

That my dear fellow, is a Class 3a vibrator.  Some are so powerful, they come with an automatic kill switch safety, better known as a deadman switch.  The jack is for either a power supply, or a recharge for a nicad cell.  There was no reason for a cable guy to leave it.  A cable gal maybe...

Its a vibratory stud finder, BTW, used in lieu of tapping on the walls to find a wooden stud.

well what the hell.. its not mine.. its not my roommates. I'm pretty sure it's not my wifes  (...  ..  LOL)

the only person in here has been the cable guy... unless the landlord was here and didn't tell us. but he always tells us.

You'd think a cable installer would have one of those fancier finders with LEDs? Think mine
was around $25 at Home Depot and works like a champ. What's the advantage of a vibrating
unit like that?
