I'm going in to the army in august, and I'm actually looking forward to it. I'm going to "His Majesty The King's Guard".
The battalion has two main roles. It serves as the Norwegian King's lifeguards, guarding the royal residences and "Akershus Fortress" in Oslo, and is also the main infantry unit responsible for the defence of Oslo.

I'm joining the Kp1 - Rifle company, consisting of two rifle platoons (infantry and Urban Warfare/MOUT), one escort platoon and one recon platoon.

Does anyone else here have experience from the army?
 
I've been in the US Air Force for 24 years and it has been a great experience.

Sounds like you are going to a really high profile outfit.

That does sound pretty cool... snazzy uniforms and cool training missions in the Norwegian woods with badass guns!   :party07:   Around here, if you sign up for the Army you get sent to Iraq, so it's kinda lost its cool factor.  :(

yeah, it's a pretty high profile unit, as you say.

I'm going to reduce my guitarplaying for about a year, but a chance like this is very rare in Norway actually. The government have decided to reduce the number of recruits and rather spend the money on better equippment for those who made it and got to join the army. I'm really looking forward to it!

wow, pretty cool! I wanted to join the norwegian airforce, but when I got the request of joining HMKG, the choice was pretty obvius.

You probably need a whole separate army to protect all your wooden medieval churches from the norwegian black metal fans!
 
Funny that you mentioned that!
Last week, one of our wooden churches burned down to ashes...
People who lived in that area claim to have seen a green volvo around the church a couple of times befor the fire.

Good gig. One of the few units in the norwegian army where you actually do something. I'm not saying the conscript army has no function, a lot of kids nowadays need a bit of disipline and challenges, but 90% is just training for the mobilization army.

Old GSV ranger veteran myself, I had a blast.

edit: about the church fire, it's right south of where i'm from, theres nothing but green volvos down there so that's a bad lead :icon_biggrin:
 
You're going to be guarding ....  Oslo? I guarantee you'll have plenty of time to play guitar.
 
I'm sure they keep you busy.  But there's zero chance of seeing combat.  I think an invasion of Oslo is slightly less likely than snow in the Sahara.
 
Perhaps some guys try to invade Norway to take all blondes as prisioners, who knows  :dontknow:
