How do you route the deeper "ears" for a humbucker route?

I'm trying to work out a way to convert my SSS stratocaster to a HSS.  I've had experience routing my tele pickup cavities deeper using Stewmac's templates, but the extended depth just for the "ears" on a humbucker route is new to me, especially on a stratocaster body, where the treble side has no wall to ride (due to the electronics cavity).  Does anyone have any advice/suggestions for me?  Thanks!

On my recent build, I installed the pickguard and pickup then lightly tapped on the mounting screws to locate them on the floor of the cavity. After that I drilled space for them with a Forstner bit.

This is what I do as well.  Works great and is really easy.

Sound advice.  I was trying to see if there was a way to replicate what the CNC machines could do (for a factory fresh look) using a benchtop router, but I guess this is the best solution.
