I thought I'd post my favorite Christmas time (although they are enjoyable year-round) recipe for bourbon balls, which has kind of become more like a generic "alcoholic cookie" recipe.  Post your own holiday recipe if you've got a good one.  Enjoy!

Bourbon Balls/Alcoholic Cookies - makes approx. 60

8 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
60 vanilla wafers
1 cup chopped pecans
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup bourbon
1/4 cup light corn syrup

In the top of a double boiler over simmering water, melt the chocolate.  Remove from heat and cool to lukewarm.

Crush the vanilla wafers in a food processor or blender, or crush them in a ziplock bag with a rolling pin until they
are finely ground. Put the crumbs in a bowl with the pecans and half of the sugar and mix together.

Add the cooled chocolate, bourbon, and corn syrup to the mixture and stir until it is thoroughly mixed.  Before rolling them,
you may need to put the dough in the refrigerator for a few minutes so that the mixture thickens up and isn't too gooey.

Measure out 1 tbs. of dough at a time and roll it into balls.  Put the remaining sugar in a bowl and roll the balls in
the sugar until well coated.  Place into a container with a lid and refrigerate for 30 mins- 1 hr.  Will keep for 4-5 weeks.

Variations:

Rum Balls:  Substitute rum for the bourbon.  I like to use Captain Morgan because it's got a little bit of a cinnamon flavor.
I also use half pecans and half almonds.

Frangelico Butterscotch Balls: Substitute Frangelico for bourbon and butterscotch morsels for the chocolate.  Half pecans
and half almonds.

Other variations I thought of but I haven't tried yet that might be amazing:

Mint Chocolate:  Sub. mint schnapps for bourbon.  Maybe even use Andes Mints instead of chocolate chips?

Raspberry Truffle: Use raspberry schnapps or raspberry vodka and use very dark chocolate morsels

White Chocolate Vanilla: Use white chocolate morsels and vanilla vodka

Chocolate Orange:  Use orange liqueur

Cinnamon Roll: Use white chocolate morsels, cinnamon schnapps, and roll in cinnamon and sugar

You would have to eat an entire batch to even get buzzed.  And then you'd probably be bouncing off the walls from the chocolate and sugar.

Ha, I haven't tested my luck with alcohol yet. My mom's got an enzyme problem where she could be throwing up after her second can. I wonder if I have that problem.

But I was going to triple the amount of booze called for in the recipe. :blob7:

There was a thread on TalkBass once where this kid wanted to buy some whiskey chocolates but he was terrified that the chocolates would get him drunk. I thought it was kind of funny.

You've obviously never been in a military environment where alcohol is verboten and eaten a couple of packages of German liquor filled chocolates; you can indeed get a buzz if you consume enough.

The whiskey chocolates you buy at the supermarket, however, do not contain much alcohol.
Just having a few chocolates won't get you buzzed, unless your metabolism is ridiculous.
