Curious if anyone has any experience now that both the four and five string versions of this are available. Warmoth doesn't list it in their builder, and I'm curious about a two piece bridge design being available for bass guitars.

Darn! I hate it when my threads do that!

-Probs better call the 800 number for W and ask them... -Guessing nobody here has much to say. I would, but I stick with the more traditional designs with my stuff, so I can't share an informed opinion.  :dontknow:

Thanks for the replies.

I bounced a few emails off Spike, and apparently the additional distance caused by the two part bridge makes it an unsuitable candidate for instruments with a shorter body length. The Explorer's real estate would be a perfect match as far as my eyeballs can tell, whereas the Z body is probably a non-starter.

I'm currently GASing for an Iceman 5, and I think hope there's enough overhang to stick a two part bridge on it. He said he'd shoot me an email tomorrow after checking with his lead about measurements. I can always go with a Type A, but I'd love to do something unique.

I've seen those - they look really neat, but given they're on posts, it should sit slightly above the body, which means either a shim or an angled neck pocket.  It's worth an email to Hipshot to confirm that, but I'd say you're gonna have to look at a build from the raw wood (or find a custom Luthier).  Warmoth does offer to do custom routs for an upcharge if you send them the bridge.

I hear ya on the wanting something unique, but you could always go with the Transtone or the B-style. Both more normal looking, but still far less common.  Or the bass trem, which Warmoth already does, and would run you a little cheaper than buying the D style anyway.

Only an absolute psychopath would want to use a headless system, though.  :icon_jokercolor:

Email to Hipshot got returned this evening:

The D-style stud and inserts can be install so that the bridge can rest against the body. This is how we installed ours on our Jazz bass body without the need for a neck shim.
