Anyone try these tuners? Are the staggered enough to get rid of string trees? Curretnly using staggered locking Schallers. Love them and not string trees needed, but looking to save some weight on a build. Hipshot might do it.

I haven't tried them yet, but according to Hipshot's spec they weigh 32 grams each as opposed to 33.8 grams for the Schallers. So, over six strings, you're going to save roughly 10 grams, or a third of an ounce. Hardly anything to write home about, unless you're really starved for material. It's certainly not going to affect your instrument's balance or feel. If you haven't spent the money yet, you might consider saving it. There's nothing to gain by spending it there.

The Schallers I have are 49 grams

So a savings of 17 gram each. Total of 102 grams. A  little less than a quarter of a pound. (.225 lb)

I think I will place that amount of additional weight on the headstock as a test to see how much change there would be. Should give me an idea of any benefit of removing it.
