Hetfield Inspired Nomad Build

For anyone following along, I've been working on a Hetfield Inspired Nomad Swamp Ash body/Warmoth Maple neck build. Staining has been an interesting journey. After reading and more reading, I decided upon Wudtone's Black Magic Woman for the body and their Colorless No Ageing for the neck.

My first pass had a really good result. The problem was, it boosted my confidence beyond my actual skill levels. I thought I could pull off a "sandblasted" finish. Well, I couldn't. So, long story short, I sanded it back down to bare wood and purchased another set of the Wudtone Black Magic Woman and started over. The second time around, the results aren't as stellar (I'm 100% certain it is user error, not product), but it's "good enough" for the time being. The pictures posted are the finished body with most the hardware. I'm going to let the local luthier install my bridge.

The neck is in the process of finishing and once it's done, I'll post more pictures.

That looks mighty good. Thanks for the pic.

Well thank you. I appreciate it. For a first-timer, I believe it came out as good as I could've done. I learned a lot along the way and hopefully have acquired the skills to do a better job for the RR Vee I'll build my son in the next couple of years.

Nothing like a little experience. My first finish came out great except that I missed one little rough spot when sanding. It isn't noticeable but I learned that lesson. I look forward to seeing this one built out.

I made the mistake of ordering my neck finish kit to early and the "top coat" sealant from Wudtone set up in the bottle.  Upon reading, Wudtone says the shelf life of their products are 2-3 months after purchase. So, I've got the neck base coat on and am awaiting delivery of the top coat which should be this week. So, pictures of a completed neck (along with full assembly) will be a little bit.
