Help With Soloist Neck Pickup Choice

Ive currently  got the Duncan JB(Sh-4) Bridge/ Jazz(SH-2) neck set, and while i love the JB bridge, the Jazz neck is just horrible IMO.
IM looking for a pickup that  will compliment the JB bridge at 14+K in terms of volume and sound. That is to say, Im NOT looking for a Smooth neck pickup like a PAF or a Air Norton. IM looking for something with an edge, but at lower neck output- say something from 7.2 to 10.6 K.
Also, it must come in black. Something with some balls, but wont upstage or overshadow the JB.

Dimarzio Humbucker from Hell maybe?

No, not the H'bucker  from Hell, but thanks for steering me in the right Direction. I just bought a DiMarzio Breed pickup. I just hope it doesnt sound too much like a wah-wah in the down position- i hate that tone.

I can't say I've tried the breed neck but I've heard good things third hand.  IIRC Doc and DR6 have it.

Jerry, I had JB bridge with an Alnico II Pro neck but then replaced them both with Breed bridge and neck.
A2Pro was a good match for the JB. i think the Breed will be too strong.
If you can face a 5Mb download/stream I've got a 5min track with all guitar parts being JB or A2P and first solo on A2P but second solo using both Breeds in the same guitar with the same settings for the two solos. If that helps. http://www.foxden.plus.com/mp3s/502_emotional_language.mp3
You can tell both Breeds are much more forceful than the JB and A2P.

Thanks everone. Great input.  :headbang:
....Oh yeah- I was looking at the Full Shred neck as a possible alternative. Even though it looks like the Breed will overpower the JB, I wanna give it a chance.
The A-II pro is a fine pickup, no doubt , but its a little smooth ( classic /heavey rock) and I'm  shooting for something a little more raw, and shredderific.
( sorry spelling, theres only one 'r' in 'shredderiffic' :icon_biggrin:)
PS- thats a fine sound you have there '67.
Tell me more about your axe. Floyd Rose equipped? I was also concerned about the A2 Pro in a Floyded guitar. Thnx again.

The guitar on that track has a Wilko VS100 sprung down onto the body as a fixed bridge.
The guitar has a thread http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=6163.0
If you need more persuasion for Breeds in both positions - http://www.foxden.plus.com/mp3s/503_hard.mp3  :icon_biggrin:

my fav is the screamin demon. works really great in the neck position.

Yes, thats been my experience with the Demon. Its generally an excellnt neck pickup., but i think it may be too bright with the floyd on my Alder Soloist.

Very VERY convincing argument! Excellent sound. I want to keep that JB. Mainly cause its a sound I instantly recognize from so many other recordings.

I've tried to download this file a few times and it's very choppy to listen to. Not sure if that's how it is or if it's getting messed up on download. It seems choppy in the same way each time though.

Hey, you're right, GD! It's the same for me when I download it.. :icon_scratch:
Maybe 'cos I uploaded as ASCII rather than binary? Will reupload and try again later.

EDIT - now working properly. Enjoy!

I can't believe your getting bad tone from a SD Jazz? It's probably one of the best passive neck pups I've ever heard.

But you can try the Screamin Demon or the Full Shred. Also keep in mind, most bridge pups from SD have a neck version also.  :icon_thumright:

The jazz has been getting a bad rap lately. I like it but people start to make me doubt my own ears after reading so much negative stuff about it. :tard:

Just like when Obama says the economy is getting better and he's not going to raise taxes on the middle class. What does your wallet, the statistics and your eyes tell you.

If it sounds great to your ears, is that a problem?

Somebody is always promoting the "flavor of the month". But that pup has been very consistent with guitar players. I've never heard a bad one.
