Oh man.  I was reading this thread about some Best Buys having a music section (http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=12950.0) and I looked on the BB website and lo and behold, the one 20 miles from me has instruments.  I figured, what the heck I'll drive up there to check it out.  Bad idea.

They had the white bodied Corgan strat (BTW neither of the GCs by me have them) and it was priced at $999.  This is $500 off the MSRP and ~$350 cheaper than ebay.  I tell the guy working there (who was really cool) that they have a nice price and he says, "yeah, and that one's 20% off because of the chip"  I look closer and see a small 3mmx2mm chip right where the the pickguard meets the body on the playing side.  So I take it for a spin to see what it sounds a feels like.  After about 20 minutes, I bring it back and he asks if I want it.  I ask how low he can go, and he says $700.  He shows me the vintage style case and I ask if he can do $675.  He could.  It's now in the trunk of my car.

So what do I do?  Is this such a screaming deal that I have to keep it?  Or should I take it back and admit the moment of GAS weakness?

That's a pretty good deal on a new one. Even Musician's Friend wants $1,500+ for them. Plus, what's not to love? A genuine Strat, white, hardtail, with humbucks across the board? That's gonna be a fun fiddle.

Thanks all for the advice.  I thought about this all evening and I think I'm going to keep the Corgan sig.  To make up for this (and to keep my marriage intact :)), I'm going to sell my 2006 American deluxe strat.  I never liked the shape of this particular neck, the SCN pickups are tinny and the contoured heel isn't for me.  I've replaced them with CS '69s, which I can reuse if I sell.

Here's the plan:
- Put the original am deluxe SCN loaded pickguard back in that guitar and sell it
- Put the Custom Shop '69s and blender electronics in my flame maple Warmoth strat (http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=12709.msg177983#msg177983)
- Put the extra tortoise pickguard on the Corgan

American Deluxe strat soon to be for sale:

Sounds like a good plan to me. Then you can take the proceeds from the American Deluxe and get another handy little toy <grin>

Have you seen these units yet?
