So I'm over the excitement of happy new guitar day and this is what I have
I think
three lipstick pickups, three volume, one of which is a push pull
three way toggle

with the push pull down and the toggle down I get the bridge controlled by volume #2
with the p/p down and the toggle in mid I get bridge controlled by volume #2 and neck controlled by volume #1
with the p/p down and the toggle up I get the neck controlled by volume #1

with the p/p up and the toggle down I get bridge controlled by volume 2 and mid controlled by volume three (push pull)
with the push pull up and the toggle mid I get bridge controlled by 2, neck controlled by 1, and mid controlled by three
with the push pull up and the toggle up I get the neck controlled by 1, and mid controlled by 3

pluses each pot can have volume adjusted individually to dial in just the right twang or tone
can have all three pups on at the same time.

minuses confusing as hell when I'm playing, no tone control, no master volume, and when two pots are on adjusting volume is not smooth or quick.

I'm going to change the pups (don't care for the lipsticks, great on high gain, week clean..

what would you do with three pots, and a hole for a toggle
I considering a master volume, two tones, and replacing the three way toggle with a five way rotary. and then using the p/p for series parallel..

what would you guys do.

I'd do a Master V, Neck Tone, and Bridge tone.  For the toggle space, a three way toggle and one of the pots being push/pull for the middle pickup.  With this setup the middle pickup is only used with all three or in combination with another, most useful IMO.  Or, find one of the 5 position toggles that fits in the toggle space.

just got an email from the guy who had the guitar built in 1992 this is what he said, looks like you nailed it

Hi Lance, I do not have any Fender Strat Elite pickups.

Back when I ordered that guitar I was a huge King's X fan, and since Ty Tabor used a Strat Elite I started buying up N.O.S. Elite parts. The pickups in your guitar were brand NEW...from 1985!

The bridge and neck PUs were wired up to the switch like as Les Paul. The middle PU was wired so that it could be bought in and out of the circuit...I cannot remember how this was achieved. Push pull pot????

I have this in my hardtail strat. Here's why I like it. Ignore the 2nd tone knob, just leave it alone. Then, it's a standard strat 5-way switch, master volume and master tone. Simple and classic tones.

Pull up the 2nd tone and the middle goes into series with eiher the neck or bridge, whichever is selected. HB-type tones in 1,2 4, and 5. 3 is silent though.
Turn the 2nd tone down, and the bridge and neck blend, so you can get all three on or bridge / neck.

Pups are noiseless so there's no noise issue. Basically it's simple if you need simple, and stock look, yet it has some nice tonal options. I use the series option often when I'm playing slide. Maybe this will be useful to you.
