Even Les Paul didn't like the SG
well they wanted to put his name on it, when they stopped production of the Les Paul and replaced it with the SG he withdrew his Name from Gibson so they had to call it the SG. Basically he thought it was a cheap thing designed to compete with Fender, which it was. I think he needed to remove his name from Gibson again when they started watering down the Les Paul and turning out 50 gadzillion cheap models of a good guitar. It has gotten that every kid on the block owns what used to be a cheap Les Paul copy, but now they say Gibson on them and are of the quality of that imported copy made by pigmy's in lower Zambailodiagyland.
So now, instead of a 7 year stop in the production of the Les Paul we are stuck with Gibson ripping them selves off so bad they are losing the respect of their core clientele

sorry for the hijack..

Not at all. Gibson, Fender, etc they just keep spraying out shittier models of their guitars, which is why for the money your just as well off getting something aweosme and custom chosen here. And they did put his name on the early SGs if I'm not mistaken.

yes they did put their name on a few of the first SGs, then he made them quit it.
Like always, corporate was trying to use a cheaper body, same everything else to compete, The SG is a good guitar.
However, When needing a new good set neck guitar 7 years ago, I played quite a few LPs, and bought a PRS because it was just that much better of an axe, the fit and finish is miles better than what Gibson has sunk to.

Fair enough! It's the look, with better hardware and wood obviously, that attracts me to the SG. Always has, dream guitar, you know the story....

Funny, I have owned 2 LPs, one SG, 3 AM strats, 4 Teles, amoung others, I loved my SG, great Axe, I really love Teles because of the entire vibe you get while playing one. They are just a plank of wood, but they snarl, grit, twang and sing Just my kind of Axe, I literally beat them to death, pound my fist on them to keep sustain going, drop them, bang the heads into anything in the way, and twist on the neck till the neck joint gets loose and needs to be fixed, again. But my dream guitar, A D Angelico New  Yorker.

Got  a pic of your dream? ANd maybe you can inform me: I've been thinking Wenge neck, but would that have a neck dive problem if I did that?

But why would I want to ruin a lovely SG body with that silly 6 in line guff? I like the look of the Warmoth headstock actually.

I would never suggest that.  Rather, the point I was trying to make is that your SG will be closer to a Fender than a Gibson.  I had heard too, perhaps falsely, that Les thought the horns of the SG were to sharp.  The guitar was dangerous.
