Hi all

thank god there is this forum or i'd be lost!!

been playing bass for about 20 years and i finaly decided to go with a Gecko 6  :headbang1:

this is what i'm planing:

Body : Camphor Burl  on swamp ash body
Neck : Bubinga or maple  fretboard (no gecko inlay) on wenge neck, jumbo frets
Bridge : Hipshot A type , gold
Tuners : DB7 gold
Electronics : 302 board and 2003 Status Bass Pickup (2X) all from Status graphite
Knobs and pickup covers : Camphor Burl

any sugestion on finish???????? ,

thx for listenin' loll

A Maple fretboard on Wenge?

I don't think Warmoth offers Maple fretboards on non-Maple necks, and either way, the fretboard would be finished while the neckback would be raw. That would be weird.

Line6 is correct.  No maple on wenge necks.  The maple would need a finish and there's too great a potential for varying expansion/contraction rates of the wood.  Good recipe for a funky neck.

ebony on wenge would be good , but for some reason i think a ''light colored'' or pale wood would be a nice contrase with the burl , no?

You haven't mentioned anything about style of music or any specific sound you're after.  Absent of that information, it would be a pretty bass.

I would be inclined to go maple/zircote on the neck with a clear gloss or clear satin finish.  Depending on the burl piece, there may be enough left over to do a matching peghead veneer.  Alternately, if you want the top to be the focal point of the bass, select a maple fingerboard.

You'll want to look at a 16.5mm string spacing for your bridge.  In all seriousness, check out the new Gekco bridges.  They're solid brass and work quite well.

I'm telling you , Warmoth's site is so huge way too much opions (loll) been stairing at it for days.. i will need help with this i'm freaking getting lost in there.loll

ok Me :
i'm looking for smooth warm sound (jazz) i love the tone of an F BASS , (i think Status Basses have an amazing tone pretty close to F and smith )
but at 4k and up i'll pass :sad1:

as for woods , i know alot about them (was a wood turner for 10 years) but for an instrument ! i dont have a clue!

bridges : TG6 ! great looking bridge love it in gold

one thing i know , i want pickup cover and knobs (same as top)...but i will make those
