Sometimes, patience comes in handy. If money is an issue, set the thing aside for a bit and come back to it later. It often beats compromise.

It's not that money is an issue, per se. It's that I don't want to spend $150 on what is essentially going to be one decal. If I thought I'd have a use for the other 49, I'd go for it.

At the moment, I'm back to burning the logo on. A wood burning iron isn't that expensive.

Not that there's anything wrong with the idea of burning in a logo - lord knows we've been treated to some spectacular examples of what can be done with that technique here - but I wonder if maybe you're discounting how much talent/experience it takes to do that well enough to be acceptable. I wouldn't try it, and I've actually done some woodburning before and after eleventy-bajillion solder joints am no stranger to wielding a hot pencil iron. But, necks aren't cheap and woodburning is pretty permanent. Wouldn't even make the top ten list of choices for testing the steepness of the learning curve.

If you really like the idea of burning it in, you might want to consider calling around to the local trophy shops and see if one of them has a laser engraver large enough to accommodate a neck. You'd not only get it burned, it could be made three dimensional as well, which would be pretty cool...

I'm going to be going the cheapy route this weekend - borrowing a vinyl cutter and cutting a few.  I am sure these will not be super-durable, but I don't tend to play out or drag my guitar around very much.  I do like the look of those metal decals, but also not willing to spend $150 for 50 of 'em when I've only got a handful of guitars.

Doug's work is great too, and I'm still thinking about having him make a neckplate for me...

Certainly if I go the pyrography route, I'd test/practice it first. I have two logos that I could use, and for burning, I'd go with the simpler one. And I mean dead simple. Composed entirely of straight lines.

If I go the plate route, I'd probably just buy a blank brass tag and etch it myself. I'm already planning to etch my neck plate, so I could do them both at the same time. With that, I could go for the more complicated logo.
