"King?  Well, I didn't vote for you."

..and my favoirte line, "Strange women lying in ponds distributing swords is no basis for government," or something like that.

"Just because some watery tart lobbed a scimitar at you doesn't mean I'll kneel before you!"

It appears I've created some kind of monster. Some Great Black beast of Aaaaaauuuugggghhhhh.

But yeah, nice guitar.

whats the deal with headless guitars???? does it change the tone or sound??? do they play dif??
I think they change the tone. I think I read somewhere that it may be a more desirable sound because the vibrations are just tunning through the neck and through the body or something like that, but don't quote me on that. Also they look cool if it's done right, which I think this one has been.

I don't think the sound of a headless is different, but then I can't tell the difference in sound between maple and carbon fiber, so take that with a pinch of salt ;). The headlessness is mostly for balance; there's no point in it having the extra length if it's not needed, and a shorter/lighter neck means the guitar sits at a higher angle, which makes it more comfortable for me. In addition, I'm tired of smacking my guitar's heads on things :). Someone asked if I painted it myself; no, it's a standard Warmoth paint option :). And I don't play country :p; it's for a goth metal band and it's seeing its first gig this Saturday night. Wish me luck.

The strandberg tuners do indeed take ordinary strings; I have an Elixir Polyweb 10-46 set on it now. If anyone's stuck for a neck choice, give Moses a shot; they're VERY solid, unaffected by heat and humidity and play very well.

how did you go about mounting the neck to the body? anything special??

also do you have to have that rout for the bridge? are there any other options for bridges that do not require a special rout?

what is the fretboard overhang like? is it about the same as the warmoth necks with the slight gap?

Im seriously thinking about something like this for my next build.

Nothing special with the neck to body mount. The bridges are supposed to be routed, but my luthier couldn't be arsed, and instead modified them to take a second screw and flatmounted them. The fretboard overhang is pretty standard; a gap between the body and the fretboard.

The rout is for finger access, so that I can turn the tuners. They'd be very difficult to turn without it. Pretty much any headless tuners will require either this, or to be mounted with the tuners hanging off the edge of the guitar (maybe a Musiclander body would accommodate that?).

man im seeing this set up on a V2 looking way rad! might kinda be a tough thing to pull off tho.

but your soloist has def got me thinking!

I don't know, man.... V2's need a pointy headstock...

Nice work. It reminds me a little of a the old school "Cylon's" out of the 70's Battlestar Galactica TV series.  :party07:

Anyway,  :kewlpics:! I'll definitely be checking out those necks.

A headstock is part of the beauty of a guitar, but as long as you like it, that's all that matters.

True, when you compare this to something like a PRS or the Burn Unit in the Soloists thread, there's no denying that this guitar's butt-ugly and that's thanks, in part, to the fact that a headstock is part of what makes a guitar look normal. Purely from an engineering point-of-view, though, it's not necessary for the guitar to function properly, so I left it out.

Really speaking, if I had the chance to do it again, it would probably look like one of Ola Strandberg's designs:

I've always been a function over form kind of person, though. Most of the things I own and use are ugly as hell, but they work well and that's really all I ask :).

You must be related to Tom Scholz.  :icon_biggrin:
