Hankerin' hard, gents.  Real hard.

All of my acoustic gigs are plugged in and amplified.  I'm thinking about building a single-purposed piezo platform.  No p'up routes.  Just a bridge and control routes.  Anyone pull this off?

Hankerin.

Man, I've thought about doing this with a tele, mahogany with a spruce top.
(I have way too many warmoth plans... it's unhealthy...)

Mahogany Tele body with a cedar top and tortoise binding. Mahogany neck with a slotted headstock and ebony fretboard. Wilkinson Ghost saddles on a custom ebony bridge plate. I've had it planned for years. I've also thought about a seafoam Strat with a blank tortoise guard, maple/rosewood neck and a Fishman Powerbridge setup.

I think what you guys are describing is a Godin Acousticaster. Why reinvent the wheel? They are great playing guitars and can sound acoustic with bronze strings or more like a jazz box with flat wounds. I had one and foolishly sold it because I didn't use it much.

EDIT: come to think of it, we reinvent the wheel all the time around here. If you can improve on the formula then go for it.

When I was a kid I played a Gibson Chet Atkins SST and I've been enamoured with the idea of a solid body acoustic ever since.

The Line 6 Variax is a fun toy too. A custom build with Variax guts would be badass.  :party07:

There have been 2 Teles and a Strat as I recall without pup routes,,, pure piezo,
A couple of the threads, though older, were just commented on within the last few days, or linked to. Darn if I can find them right now.

Here's Deajo's acoustic Tele, but it does have one pickup.

Then, Unwound G did this one...

And I have a Jazzmaster-style one in progress, although it also includes pickups...

I'm thinking Velocity if I ever get around to that. I dunno - the upper bout reminds me more of acoustic guitar than a tele does for some reason.

Quit hankerin' and start makerin'!

Electric style bridge with Ghost saddles or an acoustic style like Unwound G's?

(I keep thinking about doing the Ghost thing on my current baritone build. Any good reason not to?)

Either way really.  Wonder if the acoustic style will need an angled neck??

Personal preference. But, none of the high-end acoustics I've ever owned/played had an angled neck. Although, it's not unusual for them to have angled headstocks, if that's what you mean.

Bridge height is the driver for the angled neck requirement. Strat bridge with piezo saddles? No. TOM with piezo? Yes. Or any sort of post bridge.

No
