THE STORY and I am sticking to it:

I walked into local Sam Ash to buy some strings and what did I see...the clerks dropping over about 25 Gibson Robot Les Pauls, SGs, Vs, and explorers.

Aparantly they had some special purchase from Gibson.

I walked away with this Les Paul for $999 out the door...with case.

I am getting used to the Robot system...seems cool.  Guitar plays great.  Standard Gibson pickups are are little less power than I am used to but I am happy none the less.

They had one...$3500 I think.  Killer looking guitar.  I played one at the Gibson Factory in Memphis.  Sounded great.  The p-90 rocks!

I was not real happy with the neck and I did not like the black back.

the technology is amazing...had to believe they also make the ZOOT suit!!!

I choose this one becuase it does look so similar.  The top is wild maple as opposed to the tiger/flame on the darkfire....

here is a photo of my actual guitar.

I've seen a few threads w/"heads up" on these being $999.99 at Sam Ash...blowin' them out. Be curious to see a review once you've gotten acquainted w/her.

Can you do pedal steel type stuff on it?

can you elaborate?  Do you mean the differenct tunes if provides?

You can coohse these presets:
Regular, E flat, Double Dropped D, DADGAD, Dropped D, Delta blues (DGDGBD).

you also have the ability to create and store custom tunes.

That's a good deal for a good price. Basically you get the Robot for the same price as a basic Studio. If the technology goes away they will be collectors items.

Well, what I'd be looking for is the ability mid-lick to take one string and make it a whole tone sharp or flat, and then release it after an eight note or so while holding the other strings at the same pitch.  For example,  raise the g string a whole tone, then play a figure on the e and b strings, then release the g string back to normal pitch - all while whipping out a hot-ass country solo with the guitar behind my head.

Can you do stuff like that?

uhhhhh...NO.  sorry.  You could program it to do it, but not in mid-solo.

here is the link to sam ash:

the cheapist I have seen this model, non robot was $1300 at Musicians Friend.  Not sure what the Robot would add to that.  Mucisians friend, guitar center and other all list them as UnAvailable.  Sam Ash must have worked some magic.

Glad that the bender is not obsolete... yet

I wanted to do "pedal steel stuff" so I bought a... pedal steel. Works great - more filling. :hello2:

At $999, I wonder what kind of service they offer when the servomotors start to fritz... gee I wonder why they're $999, didn't they used to be $3000? :o

(i bee reading these articles for years about playing "pedal steel licks on standard guitars" - they lie, like dogs in the Georgia mud, they lie)
