Guitar Snobs

You guys have got to be kidding me. Those lyrics are perfectly transparent to anyone over about 12 years old, if that. Nothing subtle about them. I mean, if any kid didn't understand what they were talking about, I'd feel sorry for them. So, what's the problem? Biology illegal in your neighborhood? Is ignorance encouraged? Do you wonder why some kids end up in trouble? Whaddaya, stupid? Don't you remember being a pre-teen or a teenager? I know it was a traumatic time, but come on! Get a grip! AC/DC was the least of anyone's worries.

The real corruption of our youth came from The Beatles "I Wanna Hold Your Hand" AC/DC ain't got shit on that.

AC/DC also fits the 'market to 13 year olds, and now 30 years later they still love it', along with a (absolutely shocking to me) number of the current crop of 13 year olds.  Simple chord progressions, straight 8ths on the A string,  lyrics that - gutter content aside - are still not exactly high poetry. (Actually I thought  'Rock n Roll Dream' was a bit more complex and subtle than what I normally expect from them).  Yet this is likely to be met with a chorus of, 'yeah but they made good music'.

Even though Rush fans in particular  are  likely to make such accusations because there aren't 7 chord changes to every bar and the lyrics haven't been run through a thesaurus, nor are there any songs about angst, quantum physics, or stock purchases using inflection points of the DIJA  - there's still a surprising amount of complexity in there - especially rhythmically, and many of those straight 8 bass lines are actually  pedals that set up some interesting tension.

That said - just because I can admit that some of my favorite music was also the product of a skillfully run marketing machine doesn't prevent me from mocking Justin Bieber.

13 year-olds liked it (because it Rocked), but it was geared toward adults. In fact, most teenagers probably didn't even get the innuendo and double-entendre in AC/DC's lyrics.
Their music contained a hell of a lot more creativity than anything Katy Perry or Britney Spears has ever done. Plus it Rocked.
I'm a Rush fan, I can enjoy complexity. But I'm a Bush fan too if that says anything about simplicity. I personally hate AC/DC's music, I just can't stand the guy's singing.

Ntm, I think justin bieber can sing really well. He does what he can to please his fans, which there aren't a lot of. I'm not a fan, but I'll listen to him before AC/DC. And the mash ups...

Again, nothing against AC/DC, I just can't enjoy.

Yeah, I never listened to them for the singing. It was always the nasty blues-based Rock grooves.

NOW it's the most random thread:

Hey sorry - didn't mean to put you down.  No offense intended.

It's just ... just... IT'S THE CRAMPS!!!  :headbang:

I appreciate that.

I have, in fact, *heard* of The Cramps, but never actually listened to them, nor could I have picked from a line-up any of their members.

My lack of susceptibility to them was really just the result of bad-timing and inordinate influence: someone I didn't like, when I was a Freshman in high school, had a Cramps patch on their bag, and that was enough for me to eschew giving them a listen.

Pretty dumb, sure, but -- back then -- disliking someone was enough of a motive to dislike what they liked. Doesn't happen for me anymore, but it seems still to be a pretty common response, for many.

Cant wait for UPS to drop off some parts...... :headbang1:

Mmmm... reminds me of a UPS lady we had a few years back. Hot as the sun, and I think she liked me. Saw her at least 2-3 times a week, as the roommate and I did 95% of our shopping online and we were building a lot of computers in those days. Had a lot of extended conversations and it looked like we might start going out. She even took to buying canned cat food for a stray I encouraged to stick around. But, as it worked out, she was a Jesus freak, so things cooled off pretty fast after that. Few things are as difficult to tolerate as a dedicated fanatic. I was surprised it took as long as it did for it to manifest.

Yep sounds like UPS, at one point I was recieving so many guitar parts deliveries that I knew the UPS guy by name,we had talked so much that after awhile he offered to put a word in for me if I wanted to work for UPS....lol
