Guitar-less Neck

How long can a brand new neck be held on to without being attached to a guitar/strung up? There's a neck I'm interested in buying, but it could be months before it's put on a finished guitar. Is that safe to do? Will the tension of the truss rod eventually damage the neck without the counter-tension of the strings?

:icon_scratch:  Probably about 19 hours  ....... then I'd probably let go of it, once I'd fallen asleep  :icon_biggrin:  :icon_jokercolor:

1. Just buy it  :icon_thumright:
2. Yep No drama's (I've got a few been sitting here over a year)
3. Nope (other wise the big W would have some real problems)

I presume you mean a Raw or a Finished Neck !!
As Raw Maple / Mahogany / Koa, might be a different matter, if you didn't put a hard finish on it.

I had my Baritone Tele Neck packed away for close to 2 years before I put it on a body.

Just keep it protected, especially if unfinished.

The neck is shipped with the truss rod loose, I would keep it that way until mounted, strung up, & set up.

Thanks for all the input, everyone. I bought it!  :blob7: It's an all Pau Ferro neck.
