So the apple does not fall far the tree.  My son picked up an old mexican strat that was beat.  The original color was white but VERY aged.

He took it apart and painted it with some rattle can, then started to relic.  He did a nice job.  He did add some GFS locking tuners (amazing product)  The knobs and PU covers are original and you can see the wear on them.  The guitar you can see the white and creme colors under the aqua colored paint. Last touch was the tortoise shell pick guard that the aged with some sandpaper and screwdriver.

Enjoy.

Fun stuff, eh?

Looks like a typical Fender neck attachment... :icon_biggrin:

I don't think it's a secret that your boy is one of the most popular players (and now builders!) this forum knows of.  Makes me pleased to see how you and he connect over this stuff.  My own older boy just picked up the guitar (just like his old man!... only, with, you know, talent and discipline), and I am so very stoked that he is enjoying it as much as he does.  Great stuff.

Bummer about the neck joint, though.

yeah.  The plate is crooked but the neck is straight.  All that matters.  He paid $60 for the guitar so I am not worried.

Thanks for the compliments Bagman.  He has a gig today.  He also has been taking Jazz lessons.  They have really opened his eyes and gave him additional skills to build on.

Heck of a deal at $60.

I know.  There was son serious damage on the back lower horn but the neck and electronics were in tact.  Nicely aged for what he wanted to do.  The stock pick guard was white.  Plays decent.  I have to now teach him how to set it up.

That really came out nice. I particularly like the color with the tortoise pickguard.  :icon_thumright:
