guitar amps thru bass cabs?

does anybody do this? i run an orange rockerverb thru a avatar 2x12 with v30s. my local guitar shop has bass cabs at ridiculously low prices (60-70% off) to clear out old stock. i remember hearing someone say they like bass cabs for guitar amps. anyone do this, or kno how it sounds?

I have seen some do it.  Depends on the speakers....10 inch....15 inch?  Take you rockerverb in and give it a whirl.

probably would work ok, know that if you run a bass itself through any kind of guitar amp it could blow it up if your not careful, but doubt a guitar could do that to a bass one. might be a bit lower end sound as its for basses originally.

The Bassman... 4x10, 2x12, 1x15, 2x15, .... all used guitar speakers essentially guitar cabinets, and they were pretty much guitar amps, with larger  output transformers and one channel voiced (terribly) for bass

Using a bass enclosure is ok, but... The real test is the speaker.  Guitar speakers in a bass enclosure are pretty good.  Bass speakers that are available these days, all have a different response curve than guitar speakers... the tone will probably not be something you'd want all the time.

Bass speakers are usually very sterile and focused, where as guitar speakers break up and smooth out the tone.

ahhh sweet, all good help! might snatch my bass players cab and give it a whirl.

but yeah, theres gotta be a reason why you never really see anyone "big" playing thru basscabs  :dontknow:

p.s. tried a vox night train/matching greenback cab yesterday. i was impressed. very impressed. any thoughts?

VOX nightrain is nice. CRANKS for 15 watts!  Very classic brit sound maxing out to an AC/DC type of rock.

The thing that buged me was the lack of headroom for the cleans and the fact it could not be footswitched between the to channels.  Take a look at the ORANGE duel terror if you are into that kind of sound.

Blackstar  also make a nice two channel...

played my crate 350w shockwave through one of those new hartke 8x10 cabs with those hybrid aluminum paper cones.  sounded awesome!
I wouldn't use it as a staple but i would certainly record it.
