Good time to buy UK made parts. Including but not limited to Bareknuckle Pickups

Just wanted to say that do to the current exchange rate between the US buck & UK pound NOW is a good time to be looking at Bareknuckle pickups.

Current rates put BKPs in the same price range as Seymour Duncans.

I'm not getting into the question whether one is better than the other, only that BKPs are usually quite a bit higher priced here than they are this week.

If you are thinking of using their pups this is a good time to check them out.

Dare I point out that there are many other boutique pickup winders in the UK, almost all of which are both cheaper than Bare Knuckle and have more options on offer. :icon_thumright:

I noticed that this weekend and it was a real difference. Bare Knuckle has a great range of options. Creamery is nice as well but I agree this is a good time to order from Bare Knuckle. One set I have been eyeing is down by about $75 US from what it had been. BKP customer services is among the very best.

I'm in the UK so exchange rates don't matter to me but yes, Bare Knuckles are wonderful pickups. I bought a Flat 50 Telecaster bridge pickup from them last week and I'm dying to hear it when my current project's complete.

I'm also considering another project using pickups from Creamery Pickups, just because they do a copy of the old Wide Range humbuckers and I'd love to hear those things in an ash body Telecaster.

Creamery pickups are absolutely fantastic, and having bought (for myself) and installed (for friends) pretty much every type of pickup you can imagine from pretty much every UK pickup manufacturer that you could name, I will always recommend Creamery pickups and Catswhisker pickups ahead of Bare Knuckle, without exception. Oil City are also an as-good product and a nicer company to deal with than Bare Knuckle, and cost about the same as Seymour Duncan & DiMarzio; Oil City are who I always recommend if you want the highest quality but don't need anything too custom. Catswhisker are my #1 pick for really out-there pickup styles, and The Creamery is my #1 for more standard types of pickup with more custom tweaking than Oil City usually do, but not quite the bizarre shapes & sounds that Catswhisker specialise in.

As far as the Creamery Wide Ranges go, I've installed a few sets of those in various friends' guitars, and they've all stuck with them. In fact three of them have gone on to order additional sets for second and third guitars, including one set as a replacement for a much more expensive, American-made Wide Range copy. Wide Range pickups are not my personal tonal cup of tea, but as far as user experience around these parts go, the Creamery ones can't be beaten.

Since coming to this forum I have learned a lot about many different and obscure brands and here is another one I didn't know about, Oil City.
I will have to check them out as well.
Thanks for the tip.

Cheers.

Ace, since you seem to be offended that I didn't include all the pickup manufactures in England in my thread I have changed the title to reflect my mistake.
I was only trying to let folks here know that the exchange rate was favorable for purchasing items from the UK with the US $.
I knew that because I had just bought some pickups from Bareknuckle Pickups.
I have not had the experience with every pup maker in the world like some of you guys and I was just trying to let others know that I thought this was a good deal.
I'm sure that the companies you mention are every bit as good and perhaps even better than the one I dealt with. I just have no experience with them.
The point is, was, and should be that now is a pretty good time to purchase items from the UK.
Sorry that I worded it wrong.

Dude, I'm not offended or upset. I just know that there are lots of options in the world and it's a shame when people don't step outside their comfort zones. It's all good! :icon_thumright:

I'll just add a +1 to the Catswhisker recommendation. Great pickups and, as Ace says, very flexible if you have more unusual requirements. Also Allan's a nice guy to deal with and there's usually less of a wait than there is for Creamery stuff.
