i have a strat with texas specials. for a long time now i have been meaning to put one of SD's 'hb in a single coil" in the bridge position.

which of SDs various 'hb in a sc' - jb jr, lil 59, hot/cool/vintage rails etc - would go well with texas specials (at the neck and middle)?

appreciate the feedback.

+1; JBJr output a little on the high side to match with Texas Specials unless you coil tap it, and run mostly in SC mode, shifting to full HB mode for "Turbo"; Lil' 59 works great, have one installed in a Strat with Fender Custom Shop Texas Fat '50s Neck/Middle  SCs and it works/balances well.

guys thanks for the feedback. i was actually going to get a jb jr as it was said to be less output that the hot rails. but from what you guys say even that might be too high for texas specials.

are texas specials considered to be medium or low output?

I've used all the Fender Custom Shop sets in builds; the current "Texas Specials" are basically the same as the "Fat 50's", but with a little overwind for higher output; would call them "medium" in terms of output. A while back Fender offered a different set that were labeled "SRV Texas Specials" that I think were just a slightly higher output than the current offering, but can't find specs on them any more. I forgot to mention in my previous post that you should order the "neck" version of the Lil' 59 as that has lower output than the "bridge" version and balances better.

The Tejas Especiales and SRV TS's were basicallly the same, with only a minor variation in the stagger of the magnets on the G and B.  <--or so I've been told.  I've also been a big proponent of TS's since their beginning and I dont think Fender ever offered them as a stand alone set.  All the sets I've seen... I thought were pulls from the SRV signature Strat.

The FAT 50's and TS's are different windings, different magnets.  The fat 50's are much less bottom then the TS's, with more traditional sparkle, and without the in-your-face mids the TS's have.  They're a nice pickup.
