Hi,
I'm used to play with very high diameter strings on my JB
and the maple/rosewood neck twisted

Now, I'm wondering whether a Goncalo Alves/Pau Ferro neck will be strong enough
to replace the old neck ?
Does anyone have any experience on Goncalo Alves bass neck ?
Thanks

I use Labella DeepTalking strings 49-109 or 52-110 (J Jamerson)
The twisted neck is my original 78 Fender neck that let me down ... :sad1:

warmoth necks are a very solidly constructed. Also, in general if the wood does not require a finish, then it is very very dense and should not warp easily. Goncalo Alves falls into this category of woods, but in general I think you'd do just fine with a normal maple neck and an approved finish from Warmoth. Goncalo Alves is some sweet stuff though...

Thanks for reply,
Do you mean that standard Maple/Ebony would be a more reliable choice
and Goncalo Alves/Pau Ferro bass neck is a little risky ?
My original idea was "if I don't change for an original Fender neck with Logo, the best may be to change for an exotic stuff ..."
I thought about a teak neck, but this wood seems to be less hard than maple, so I'm looking for something else that would mate with my old ash body ...

nope, I'm saying that you should do just fine with a maple type neck from warmoth, given that you have a proper finish, but Goncalo Alves is AWESOME. Its more reliable than mapele.

I don't think the neck wood or string gauge made your neck warp.  I think being 32 years old and from a Fender quality limbo era made it warp.  If you get 32 years out of your next neck, great!

Thanks
Good info to light up my mind (is that correct english?  :dontknow:)

PS Anybody's got information about reliability of 100% TEAK bass neck ?

i've never heard anybody talk about specific woods in terms of reliability. reliability is a matter of construction and the integrity of said construction.

that being said, if you want something like maple but want to go exotic get Canary. it looks beautiful, sounds a lot like maple, feels excellent, and unfinished would probably run you the same or less than a finished maple neck.
