Goncalo Alves as a body wood?

I was wondering if anyone on here has heard of Warmoth building a body for a special order out of Goncalo Alves? and if no why not?

I ask this because I was looking at choosing either a Mahogany or Black Korina body and then I saw the description of  Goncalo Alves and it looks to have a similar tone and doesen't require a finish. I would prefer not to pay for a finish and I am not concerned with cosmetics at all so no finish is fine with me. I have tried some of the do it yourself rub on finishes and I seem to always mess them up somehow. Goncalo Alves seems like it would be the perfect solution.

I could understand if its really spendy them not using it but if it is good enough for a neck it should be ok for a body right?

i dont think thy get blanks big enough for bodies but i dont work at warmoth so i may be wrong

yeah i don't think they get pieces big enough for a whole body. I was told they only on occasion get pieces big enough for a 1-piece neck, which i imagine is still less than what you need for a body

As said, with such small blanks you'd have to do an X-piece body, meaning you'd need several blanks and a lot of effort from warmoth to piece it all together. It would be cheaper for you to go with mahogany or korina and do a finish on them.

I'd do it. I have a neck made of G.Alves and it is great without a finish. I'd go with Paduak as the core wood.
