Goin' to Vegas next week for a trade show.
I'll be there 10 days or so - any advice on guitar places to hit?

... and no - I don't want to see Ed Roman.  I'd probably just end up punching him or something.

Nevermind. There goes the good one. Thanks alot, Trevor.

You should go to his shop, bring your favorite tele, and tell him to help you figure out why it isn't sounding right  :sign13:
Then maybe punch him.

just found this bit on the ernie ball forum:
Roman Guitars Closing
(Port Washington, NY - June 14, 2007) Las Vegas-based Ed Roman Guitars, known as “The World’s Largest Guitar Store,” began liquidating its assets on June 13. This comes six months after Roman sold the business to a company operating area car dealerships. According to Roman, nine employees were let go in May, followed by 13 more on June 13. Roman believes a car dealership will replace his store, due to the potential for more profits.
“I want everyone to know I’ll be back and everything will be made whole,” said Roman. “I am in the process of buying my name back. I didn’t sign any non-compete clause, so I hope to reopen a store, although it won’t be as large as my last one.”

this confirms a story from a friend who went to vegas twice and said the second time that Roman's had been reduced to a hole-in-the-wall music shop with apartments upstairs.

I'd go see that pawn shop, " Pawn Stars" just to see it i guess. they got a show down here in the states, it's pretty good. Pawn Stars is not the name of the shop, thats the shows name, I don't know the stores name.

^^ i think it would be worth checking out.. i love that show and in the rare instance they buy or sell a guitar on camera it is always something great, movie props, or vintage. vegas must be the best place to own a pawn shop, you know you will see something good, maybe a whole lot of bad stuff but there has to be something good there.

The Vegas Hard Rock Casino has a lot of rock stars' guitars.  It's kind of cool.  Paris is pretty cool looking on the inside, and New York New York has a decent pub called Nine Fine Irishmen.

One thing we always do is collect the "hooker trading cards".  These guys give them out on the street.  Try to see if you can get them all, it's like Pokemon.

Haha, I go to Vegas a lot, and it's a running joke with my wife and I when those guys flick the cards at you... I get all excited and start grabbing a bunch, saying, "TU MADRE?!?!?!?!"

For the record, I've never been in a strip club and never will be.  And, while I appreciate that it shouldn't be illegal to pay for sex, I'm never doing it, haha.

On topic, Mayfly, make sure you check out some of the bars in the Freemont district.  I've seen tons of great talent down there, and it's refreshing as a musician to see how these guys work.  I have never had any luck finding "cool" guitar shops down there, so if you find any, let us know please!

funny you say that, my grandad got back from LA and a weekend trip to Vegas last monday. he went to that shop (Gold and Silver Pawn Shop i think it's called?) and said it's nothing like what you see in the show. he went after breakfast, said it was crowded and messy, and when he left there was a line of people outside waiting to get in. even still, i'd like to see it for myself :icon_biggrin:

he did get me a t-shirt though, so i guess it couldn't have been too bad

Back from Vegas today.  Some comments:

1 - guitar center is really bad.  I think that Long and McQuade is better - and that was the previous low point!

2 - When you're away at a trade show, folks were I work like to do some re-decorating on your office:

Every surface was covered in Business cards.  Excuse the blurry photo, but I think I had vertigo from just being in there.
