the black and gray one is kind of cool, but the others are too strange. the biggest problem i see is they're made from multiple laminated layers of birch (i think) and i think $2000 is way WAY too much to pay for something that's not made of solid wood. the body AND neck are made of laminated pieces. very weird.

i'd love for gibson to try making some new SG designs, but i don't know about this one. could sound good though, never gotten to try one

I agree. Most of them are just a little too far out. However, the transparent pickups are kinda cool. Not that I think I'd want a set, mind you.

+1 on the pups...very cool.

the body is FUGLY!  the back of the neck does look cool...MRSP IS $1999

They're $1,200, not $2,000.  They remind me of Eric Clapton's Cream-era SG shaped LP.
That's what I thought when I saw those a few weeks ago. Reminded me of the Fool guitar.

either way, for $1200 i'd want some solid wood. definitely has potential though, glad to see gibson making new designs but these are a little too weird for me  :icon_thumright:

Hey, I'm glad G is trying something new here. I think this beats the Billy Gibbon LP, honestly. I'm curious how it does.

My favorite is the rainbow one :p Take it how you want.

Personally, I think Gibson is trying to acclimate us to plywood guitars.
That, with the usual healthy dose of marketing that so many scoop up with a silver spoon.

What's new about this?
It's an SG, made of plywood.
To recoup marketing costs, it's $1,200.00 for a plywood SG.

I'll stick with solid woods while they are still available.

Lets look at this from a different perspective. say you've got some money to invest over 20 years ; lets say 10 grand. What could you do?
One thing would be to buy a set of all of these colors, as this is a unique one time production run.
Sock them away, and in twenty years pull them out of the closet and put them on ebay as a mint vintage set.
I'm pretty certain they would outperform any municipal funds or CD's ( ugh, thats 'certificate of deposit', not the little silver things with music on them)  by a very good margin.

no offense jerry, but i think this is one of the first contributions you've made on the board that actually makes sense  :icon_jokercolor:

but seriously i saw the zoot on guitar center and i said outloud "how long until the board (you guys) starts a topic about this." 6 days.

Multi-laminates are a good recipe for structural integrity, but I think they maybe went a bit overboard here...? But let's not judge the Zoots 'til we've actually heard them, eh?

I mostly like the grey one and the blue/red one kinda reminds me of King Crimson's first album colours, it's pretty much spot on the same shades of red and blue.
