Generic Floyd Shelf

Hello to everyone. This is my first post here so if my post is in the wrong section please notify me.My problem is that i want to buy a neck from the Warmoth showcase and in the nut section it has the "Generic Floyd Shelf" option preselected. The body that i'm making for this neck will not have a floyd bridge though. Can i put a regular nut (with glue for example)  in there or will there be a problem?

Thank you in advance!

It's been done, but I would not recommend it.  It's a very tedious task and its appearance will be a bit odd to look at.
If you're dead set on the same specs minus that feature, I'd suggest a fresh build or sign up for the RSS feed so when something with your specs comes on the showcase, you'll get an email and can go online & snatch it up quickly.

Or maybe use a Floyd nut, without tightening it?

Sure, that defeats the purpose of a Floyd nut, but if you are dead set on this neck... at least you won't have to fiddle with a custom nut, and adjusting the height of a Floyd nut is just a matter of shimming it.

I feel like a really good tech would be able to hand-craft a bone (or whatever) nut that filled up the whole cavity but acted like a normal nut.

First of all thank you for the replies!Second,i thought about getting a locking nut but i really dislike the view of it (just personal preference).I thought maybe if i get a block of wood same that the fretboard has and glue it leaving a small gap between the wood and the fretboard i could snug a piece of nut in there. But it seems like a lot of trouble. Also in the description it says "Generic Floyd Shelf - Optional Nut Prep Available" and there is a choice "No lock nut prepare".Does this mean it is already shaped to receive a FR nut or is it just regular?Sorry for the many questions but i'm a little confused!

Welcome.

It sounds like the neck you are looking at has already been cut for a Floyd nut and it doesn't make much sense to me to try to adapt it for a traditional nut.

Is there something extraordinarily unique about that particular neck?

There is a nut that will fit a Floyd shelf, it's called an Ebanol nut.

But I would look for a neck that can be fitted with your choice of nut. The Ebanol is more designed for those who already have a Floyd and want to de floyd as it were.

@drewfx No it was just that i liked the wood and the specs and this was my only problem.
@stratamania Thanks for the suggestion!I always wondered about that.

Thanks for the replies guys,i contacted Warmoth and they said it can take any nut install, there was a mistake in the description and they fixed it.Thank you again!
