What's the consensus on effective fretboard material for darker tone

I dig the simple (but now "endangered") Rosewood for a darker tone myself.  Not a maple fan, so ebony is my go to for a brighter sound.  But- it's all cork sniffin' for most, PUPs, string type and your amp settings dictate more than the board wood ever will...
