I have enough to build a neck, but it will be the donor for my CTV's fretboard.

So tempted to make a neck of it lol, but imagine the brightness.  I love it.  Gonna make a ton of nice fretboards I bet.

I need to find a nice pice of chocolate pau ferro for the neck meat now. Keep finding lighter pieces - the kind that put the rosewood in Bolivian rosewood heh.

Here's another teaser-

That's what EQ is for. You can always boost/cut freqs. Then, imagine how good a one-piece neck made of that stock would look/feel!

Every once in a while Warmoth will mill a neck out of black Ebony and I'm always tempted to jump on it, but my concern has always been the weight.

Way back when I worked there, I recall handling some all ebony (shaft+fingerboard, not JUST the fingerboard) and when you'd tap them they were quite bright, resonant, but heavy as all get out compared to your typical blond neck.
I've always wondered what a full build using an all ebony would sound like in the long run.
They were stunningly beautiful necks, slick as glass, and I imagine the more that they're played/handled, they'll just shine up even more.

I agree about eq, but would rather not have to haha.

Weight is my primary concern bc the ctv body, even in mahogany, is likely to be around 3.5lbs according to the samples I've seen in the showcase. Man having a solid neck made from that ebony blank would look and feel amazing. I could see it working on a heavy and dull hog body.

My son's bass has that on the fingerboard.  It came that way when we just ordered EBONY.  It is awesome.  It looks like it had water spots.  I called and thought it was Pau ferro....

Nice nice.

I decidd to go all pau ferro on this one, but might build a solid neck outta this plank.

That plank made into a one-piece neck would look great on the black and white CTV you're working up Frank.

I'm with you on that.  Only trouble is it would be really neck heavy on that lil' body.  It would be beautiful, though.

Real pretty piece of wood there. How much does the board weigh, if I might ask?

That's a great question. It'll be too heavy for the body it is meant for lol. I'm still deciding on its fate. Meanwhile I have a better suited neck being made of pau ferro.

I'm sure once you release the neck hidden inside that board, it'll get a lot lighter. Plus, some body designs are difficult to overbalance. Strats and Teles, for instance, can take a lotta neck before you have any dive issues. In fact, I'd wager it'd be nearly impossible to overbalance a Strat. It's mainly the Gibson designs where the front strap hanger is too close to the heel that want to dive on you.

My Ebony over Bloodwood neck is the heaviest piece I've ever had - it's 2lbs all up - and it it doesn't dive the VIP it's attached to.

I don't doubt - It was going on the CTV I have Warmoth doing up right now.  I've got another builder doing the PF neck build since I wanted a 3x3 with the traditional trussrod and soem other options that W won't do at the moment.  I may him whip this one into a strat carve for a future build.

My source for my all PF neck fell through.  The two necks that the plank yielded both warped, so I'm back at square 1 and am reconsidering making a 1-piece neck from this piece of ebony.  I'm trying to avoid too strident of a tone and having a neck heavy guitar.  That little CTV body may end up being really light.
