Formica?!!?

When I was growing up, my parents had a kitchen table with the same design, but in gray. Brings back memories of fighting with my little sister and getting glaring looks from my Dad!

This sounds familiar. Grey and pink Formica. I flipped mashed potatoes off my knife at my sister across the table one day. Got her right between the eyes. Boy was I in trouble.

My parents would have no sooner let us kids have a knife at the dinner table than a loaded AR-15. It was a bit frustrating sometimes as my mother liked to cook meat until it was suitable for use as a construction material.

That's pretty trick looking, complete with the edge chrome trim!
It's actually aluminum trim, which can easily be had, along with the boomerang formica... :laughing7:

Gentlemen,

By request, here's some photos of that GF body.  Executive summary:
  • It's cool!
  • general quality is sub-par!
  • It's really light!

here's some pics

That's pretty cool. I'll bet you aren't tempted to put a tortoiseshell pickguard on it, eh?

On the plus side, it's $69.95

I love this formica...
Rather than try to fit the Formica to a compound curve, just make the sides with no roundover and wrap that table edging around it. Then you'd have a 50's diner special.

Bahaha!  You could call it, "Mel".

Gentlemen,

Got that body home and had a close look.  It's actually not quite a telecaster shape.  It's too narrow across the wide part of the body and the cutaway is not shaped right.  On the GF webpage, they state something like "not intended to be used with a pickguard", and well that's because one won't fit!

So be warned.  I was thinking this one would look pretty good with a cream guard, but sadly not possible without going custom.

Here's some shots with my bender template so you can see the differences in the outline

Go custom. A cream guard on a tortoishell body is an excellent idea. It'll be an inversion that'll draw a lotta double-takes.

Sounds like fun. How about a bursted wood 'guard?

I was also considering the Tele "Mother of Perals" Tortoise  Tele body ( not sure why they named it that.
IF it's real celluloid, I'd Leave it- I bought a Celluloid Strat pickguard from Germany awhile back for my Warmoth, and it was over 60 dollars.
The say a Fender bridge will fit. Could be a cheapo fun project.
