Floyd Rose Shimming

Hello everyone,

I own a Warmoth but this thread is about an old guitar of mine and I thought I'd get your help here.

The old tremolo system on the guitar is defective and I want to install a new Floyd Rose Trem. The radius on the guitar is 15.75' (400mm). Floyd Rose trems are 10' or 12' if they are shimmed.

I read about shimming the trem but I have 3 questions:

1. Based on this http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=1983.0, it says that I can go up to a 16' radius if I shim the saddles. Does it matter if my radius is 15.75? Do I need to match it exactly?

2. The 0.2mm shims are very expensive and are only available in Australia for some reason. In the US, I could only find 0.15mm ones. Having said that, I don't know how to get the proper radius with these 0.15mm shims. Should I just go with 0.2mm or can I still make it work with 0.15mm?

3. Do I need to get the R10 nut as described in the following table to match my radius?

Appreciate the help!

16" is close enough.
Shimming is easy. I've done it on my Warmoth Soloist with Floyd Rose.
Buy the shims that are made for it.
Put 2 shims under the High and Low
E saddles, and 1 shim under the A and B saddles. There should be no shim under the D and G. The nut radius should be the 15", assuming it is a 1-11/16" width (1.68").

Thanks man! I just can't figure out which shims to buy. I can't find 0.2mm shims in the US; they're all 0.15mm. The only 0.2mm ones are from Australia https://www.ebay.com/itm/Allparts-Saddle-Shims-for-Floyd-Rose-Locking-Tremolo-Set-of-12-Made-in-USA/254066493337?hash=item3b278b0799:g:HV4AAOSwImRYNA2y:rk:8:pf:0

Do you know where I can find 0.2mm ones?

Yup, this.

I would only add: remove the 4-saddle shim that ships already installed in the OFR first. Then install the aftermarket shims as described above.

You can see how to remove the 4-saddle shim here:

Yeah, I read that somewhere too! Thanks for the reminder!
I just need to find the 0.2mm shims...

Yeah, should have mentioned you have to remove the shim that comes installed from the Floyd Rose factory.

E BAY you will find Floyd Rose shims there.

But again the problem is that the shims that are available are 0.15mm thick, whereas in the guide that I saw, they mention 0.2mm shims. I can't find those anywhere in the US

8 thousands of an inch is 0.2mm if you allow for rounding when converting.

It would not matter to me if I order from the US or Australia. As long as the price and postage is reasonable.

I wish I could help, but I just don't remember where I bought mine. It was back in 2010. I know I ordered them online.

You won’t notice any diff with those eBay shims. I have them on two diff locking trem guitars and my action set up low and fast.
