I am interested in floyd rose original vs floyd special.  I know they materials differ slightly.  Is the original really worth the extra cash?

Thank Doug. I knew you would have the answer.  A couple of questions:

Are these drop ins for the OFRs?  Seems to be be.

Can you use the evh drop d system with these?

Finally...are the zinc Inserts an issue of wear?  What does the OFR use?

Thanks

They work perfectly for top mount OFF rout, not sure about recessed rout. And I don't think theevh d tuna works with recessed rout. The zinc saddles are too soft,  I believe the OFF has hardened saddles. You can buy them separately and put on and they should fit any Licensed Floyd.

I am not using recessed.  I believe he saddles are steel.  Only mentioned the studs being zinc.  The spacing seems off.  2 7/8 does not equal 2.91.....the measurement for an OFR.  I will take you word for it since you are the expert.

Oh, my bad, well the special has zinc saddles too. But the OFR has a hardened bridge plate and posts as well as steel saddles. And the 2-7/8's spacing they say is wrong, I have 3 of them from GFS, and they have the same as the OFR post spacing as any other 2.91.

the difference between 2.91 and 2-7/8 is .035 which is just under 1mm (.0394) it's not machinist precision my any means but as long as one of the blades on the bridge are strait and they usually are you probably wouldn't notice any problems.

chances are actually that they measured it wrong in the advertisment. on a ruler 2.91 would look like 2-7/8 since .035 is about half the smallest measurment on a typical ruler.

That's what i'm guessing, they just eyeballed it with a tape measure or scale, and just called it 2.875"... :dontknow:

I use the GFS fast-loader, it's wider than the original Floyd-Rose I have it in a couple of guitars, love that you just use regular strings, no more cutting strings end balls, and works very well, the only I changed is the block

any issues with it going out of tune with big dive bombs??

No, it works very well in both guitars, it has 5 raw-vintage springs♫
