Probable not much interest for many here    :dontknow:
But thought i'd post anyway.

I might just add one of these to my gear, could be some fun.

About bloody time too ......

Cool. Maybe I should retire my Casio MG510's.

At 400 US dollars it's very reasonable I think. Looking forward to take it for a spin some day.

Or ... I'll wait until Updown post some videos about it.  :icon_jokercolor:

Unfortunately, most of the usb-audio/midi doodads don't support linux, despite the fact the the thing probably runs linux inside.  I know our blue ray player came with a list of open source licenses so long I thought it was something from work until I realized it was all legalese.

I know what you mean. My TV and Blu-Ray player both came with a mountain of open source code and 30 pages of licensing/disclaimers each. This from Sony, one of the most litigious firms on the planet when it comes to IP.

Snide comments from the haters aside, it bothers me that a company will use free software for the products, and not even have the decency to support the very platform they develop and exploit for financial gain.

I work in embedded development.  Supporting the native platform you develop for is sort of  the default condition. Someone had to decide to NOT publish drivers that they already have.  Most of us use it for our workstations, because it just makes life easier to work in the platform you develop for.

OK ...

Don't worry I thought it was strange not covering all pc's etc.  :icon_scratch:

Lol. I was expecting some of your own videos.  :icon_biggrin:

I think I have seen all the videos about the system. Now I just wait for it to be available here ... oh ... and I need some cash for it also  :laughing7:

It looks really great... an alternative to the Roland GK system, wireless, in a small box, easy to install, that I can use with all my soft synths? I want one now.

OK the specs / manuals are now up on the FishMan site ... for those interested in this.
http://www.fishman.com/tripleplay/help

It does work with Windows too.
I have just ordered one  :blob7:  BUT I don't need all the other add-ons (komplete elements) etc, I have all that stuff.
Either sell or just give those away.
One day they will probably just sell the FTP unit by it's self.

I heard that the Internal version of FTP is only available by Godin, on a new range of Godin Models due in
Summer 2013 and then later in the year only to pre-qualified luthiers.

They are working on a Bass Version too. 4 / 5 and 6 string.

Much as I'd like to be intrigued by this, it's not like one of the problems with the Roland stuff is being "too affordable". :dontknow:

I've been Fishing ...........

:blob7:

Just out of the tiny box  …  :icon_biggrin:

Just downloading crap and setting it up, HUGE problem thou..........  which guitar to put it on  :laughing7:
Picked out 2 so far that I could use with the different mounting height pads.
My SG with 2TEK and my Black Quilt Strat with TOM string thou.
Would like to test it on one with a Trem, so may-be on my Metallic Tobacco Burst Strat with a Wilki too.

Shall report my findings.
This looks great so far thou.  :icon_thumright:

BTW ... I don't need most of the software that comes with it, as I have plenty anyway.

I could be wrong, but it looks like the pickup needs to be attached to the "big part", and has a pretty short lead.

I'm curious what kind of range the thing has. The receiver is apparently a USB dongle, which means it's probably a Bluetooth link. If that's so, then I think you run outside of range in 10' or less. So, maybe not a performance piece? More of a studio thing? Although, I suppose it could be a WiFi connection, which I think would allow for about 100'. Either way, I wonder about latency. Conversion time has always been a problem with MIDI converters, so adding wireless latency to that would seem to be pouring salt in the wound.

No your not wrong Cagey.  :icon_thumright: ........ Cable is short and is connected inside of the controller.

The USB stick is a receiver with a button and flashing light.
The controller has a button and flashing light too.
You have to 1st pair them up, ie: both lights flashing then press a button on both the receiver and controller.

Then whenever you turn on the controller there after, they sinks to one another.

From the manual ....
TriplePlay communicates wirelessly with your computer via a tiny USB receiver with a 100-foot range.

Shall let you know on that after I walk up the backyard to test that one out.  :guitarplayer2:  (all thou it's midnight here now)

This fits into my home studio setup just perfect.

I just attached it with some tape and blue tack 1st, for a trial run to see how she goes with some synths.
So far so good. Sounds great  :icon_thumright:
More to learn and try out.

What kind of audio drivers does the USB interface use? I'm wondering how this would integrate into a DAW setup with an existing audio interface.

EDIT: Or is it purely midi?

This is just a quick reply, as i'm having fun fun fun ….  :toothy12:
(I'll be back with more details as I go along)

YES this Fishman Triple Play controller and pickup is for MIDI only !!

Just think of it as a Midi Keyboard, can do splits etc.
Can drive any VSTi
Can use any old MIDI Synths / Keyboard / Sampler etc, need a Midi interface for that …
(newer Synths and Keyboards these days have USB as well)

For Audio, you use your normal Pups for that.
Example … guitar plugged into > efx pedal  > audio interface > computer > monitors
              … guitar > amp > mic > audio interface > computer > monitors
Plus other ways …..

So with this you can combine both Audio via (above) and Midi via the wireless all on the one guitar.  :icon_thumright:

I am using this in a home studio set-up only, I don't play live etc.
Some of my basic setup is …

Computer and DAW
iMac 2.4GHz Intel Core Duo, 4GB, using two screens, running on 10.6.8. With Logic Pro 9.1.5, running in 32bit.
Separate HD with all my samples and my libraries plus all my Logic / Cubase projects.
Studio Monitors, 2 x A7X Adam and 2 x Alesis MKll.

Interface (Direct firewire into iMac port)
RME Fireface 400

(USB powered Hub connected to)
Roland VG-99 + GR-55 + NI Maschine + other odds and ends.
(US-20 and FC-300)

(USB Direct into iMac port)
Access Virus TI DeskTop Synth, Is both a Hardware synth and a VSTi
With a M-Audio Keyboard (USB to powered Hub) with sustain pedal.
When using the Synth as a VSTi, I have the USB cable connected.
Stand alone mode, I disconnect it and connect a midi cable from keyboard to Virus Synth.

NI Komplete 6
NI Kore 2
Plus free synths / efx's
A couple of guitars  :laughing7:
Plus other crap ….

I've just been playing synths with the wireless (no audio / cables) and found I need to use the guitar strap.  :icon_scratch:
So when I go into the kitchen (30' away) to make a coffee, I can keep on playing.  :guitarplayer2:

This arvo my brother dropped in and thought beauty TEST time.
Had him sit in my home studio while I walked outside with the guitar.
You can see all the backyard and out to the park behind my place, from my studio room.
Outside the back door 35' …. working
Standing at back garage door 55' …. working
Outside the back gate standing in the park 85' …. working
A customer of mine walking the dog in the park, looking at me strangely ….

More later ..

The FTP Hex PU (on right)  feeds 6 channels of analog signals to the FTP Controller (on Left) ......

file_zps9366230f.jpg

Where internally there are 6 A/D convertors, and an ADI Shark DSP which is performing Analog Pitch to MIDI conversion - all inside the  FTP Controller.
Also inside the FTP Controller is a digital wireless transceiver - for two way MIDI ONLY communication with the FTP Receiver stick.

file_zpseb2bc490.jpg

Note ... that there are zero analog signals being sent to the FTP Receiver stick!

Heres a pic just using blue-tack  :icon_biggrin:  to hold both controller and pup on one of the guitars to use this on.

The funning thing is to get use to when JUST using the wireless connection on the guitar.
Is when you put it into a stand, I keep looking for the cable.   so I don't walk on it etc.
I keep forgetting to turn off the controller when i'm not using it for a little while. (does turn off around 30 minutes anyway)

:dontknow:  Kind-of feels naked, when there is no cable being used. While just using the wireless system.

The two tiny screws on the Hex PU are for final height adjustment.
Switch controls ...
The Synth > plays the MIDI only. (Hex PU)
The Mix > plays both the MIDI and Audio (your guitar pups)
The Guitar > obviously plays just the guitar pups.

That's why I decided on this guitar, for the Bare Knuckles on this.

This is exactly what I was wondering - it would be a bummer if it was sending 6 tracks of audio to the computer and not making them available. But making them available would present its own problems if you're trying to integrate with an existing setup. Doing the pitch to midi on board makes more sense. But if you want to have this thing on more than 1 guitar, I'm guessing it's not practical to move it around?

I tend to find all the compromising in the guitar synth world very frustrating. :(  I just added a 13pin PU to a second guitar and have been getting into it a lot lately. But I hate having a big, ugly, expensive black thing that makes the guitar not fit in a case on a nice guitar. And building a system in is neither cheap, reversible or all that easy.

But I'm looking forward to reading more of your impressions.  :icon_thumright:
