First Warmoth body and neck............. Did I do the right thing?

Ok guys, I took the plunge on my body last night to go with my neck. A little bit scared as to whether I did the right thing or not, aesthetically speaking. I have been stalking this body for the last month in the showcase, first I liked it then not, then I did, then I didnt, but I always came back to have another look and thought about it a lot. What do you guys think, cool for my first Warmoth (and first non-Squier guitar)? I got the neck last week and it is under the bed so the lady doesnt find it and kick my arse for 'spending money on guitars again!'.

I am thinking, either a black pickguard with gold hardware (its getting drilled for 6 hole vintage) or 3 ply tortoise with silver hardware. What do you lot think would be a good pickguard/hardware combo for this neck and body.

Anyway chaps, convince me I did the right thing........................ please! :tard:

Also, the neck is darker in real life than in the pic on the site (which I was delighted about). Has anyone else found that their gear is darker than they thought it was going to be when they opened up the box?

Here are pics, sorry guys, they would'nt attach in the first comment for some reason.  :icon_scratch:

Lookin good.  Love the f-hole.  Might you consider a white pearl or pearloid pickguard to brighten it up a bit?

Yeah, I did consider it, but I want it to look moody. I was all set to go down the tobacco burst / white guard route until I decided I wanted it smoulder rather than shine. The F-hole is the one bit I am 110% on. I love the f-hole! It will just make it standout from your everyday strat.

Although the black pg with gold is very tempting I think the hues of red in the tortoise might accent the reds in the pau ferro and bond the neck and the body together a little more? What say you?

I can see a red tortise pick guard on there....Pearliod would look nice too...What about the black pearloid pickguard.  Could give it that "dark look" that you're after...
Good luck keepin' it hidden from your old lady, although I can't see how you're gonna be able to assemble it in secret... :eek:ccasion14:

I agree on the tortoise, but go for gold hardware. It will look like an old hollowbody with a tortoise pickguard.

Good call, I was thinking black pearl would look nice too.  I'd go with gold hardware.

She works away a lot. For example I dropped her off this morning at the station as she is in London for two weeks with work, which means I get to have candlelight meals with my Warmoth parts, watch TV with them, go for moonlit strolls with them etc. while she is away. Then I get to hide them away like a dirty secret before she gets back. To be honest I could show her but I could just do without the dissapproval while the parts are still getting assembled. Once I have everything in order and paid for and ready to put together then get it all out she might be mildly irritated for a day or so, I just dont want her mildly irritated for 3 months while I pay for things and research stuff.

I actually had a master stroke earlier this year when I taught her to play a little and bought her a Takamine for her birthday (which she asked for), now she is getting into guitars and lusts after a Gibson BFG. So I can point out that my slick, beautiful Warmoth cost less than the BFG (here in the UK it does) and plays twice as nice! :guitaristgif: Result.

Anyway, black pearloid............... I am really trying in my head to picture it, but I cant see it. I have seen them look good on other guitars. I hadnt thought about it till now, I will ponder on it a while. Thanks for the sugestion.

Not think that will be over the top and take away from the body? a bit too busy maybe?

Sorry, I wrote that in the quote.

Me, I'd just do plain black pickguard, pup covers and knobs, with chrome hardware. Simple, clean, let the woods do the talking.

The more I look at this body and neck, i like it more and more.  I personally am not a big fan of strat pickguards (i don't like plastic), and less of a fan of plain white or black (with notable exceptions), but I clicked on the link on the pickguard page for the "sample pickguard" in black pearl, and i think it would look classy, and unique.  with white single coils to brighten it up a bit.   can you, or anybody, photo shop the pickguard samples onto the body to check it out first before you have to commit?   And like I said, i stay away from pickguards for myself, but from what I picture in my head, that guitar with a black pearl would be a guitar i'd be proud to own.  my two cents.  good luck on the build.

anodized aluminum pickguard, gold (smoked chrome, otherwise) hardware, sperzel locking tuners, rio grande pickups (muy grande in bridge, tallboy in middle and neck?). somethin glike this. this build is gonna be kick ass! I dont understand why you are hesitant about this one...

Mr Rhythm,  I have a web site for you....type in WD music and their web page should pop up.  then go to electric guitar kits, and then click on virtual guitar builder.  You can put together just about ant combination of parts and see what they look like together.  Mind you that it's not gonna give you the exact colors that you have for your build, but it will give you an idea of what your build would look like with a red tortise or black pearloid pick guard.  It's not a perfect site and you cant get every option a imaginable, but it's a start...
Its actually a pretty cool idea and maybe Warmoth could incorporate something similar  into their web site.....

My color is obviously different than yours, but there are some similar browns, so I figured I'd post mine with the black / gold if you wanted to see how it looked.  Cheers!

Thanks fellas, I used to be a pro photographer a couple of years ago (even have a Hello magazine cover shoot and 8 page spread to my name if you get that mag in the US) so I could do the photshop, but I am at real risk of over obsessing and sickening myself on guitar combos. The WD music link was therefore welcome, I think, after looking at that site I am leaning more towards the black pg and I am undecided on gold or chrome, but I dont think pearoid is for me.............. too flashy. In terms of hardware etc. I am going down the kluson/vintage bridge route. I already have amazing Gotoh Kluson tuners (chrome, but I can get others if I go gold) which are height adjustable and locking so I can see all the birdseye on the headstock instead of string trees.

Jonathan, that is a cool guitar. My colours are more subdued, you are right, but it certainly makes me like the idea of the gold against the black guard.

Onedrop- I agree with your idea of simplicity, I apreciate modesty in aesthetics.

Actually, to add; This body grew on me and didnt smack me between the eyes when I saw it (which I think is why I like it, a less impulsive interest in it) and I actually expected this body to be quite unpopular on the board since it was unsold for such a long time in the showcase. $499................ I thought it was quite good value and I was suprised to see it still on the showcase whenever I looked. I actually said to to myself a couple of weeks ago that if it was still on in two weeks and I still like it then I am ment to buy it. It ticks all the boxes in terms of technical features.

Like someone else said, I have no idea why you're doubting this one - looks like a sweet build - even your old lady'll like it  :toothy10:

You can pick up some great deals in the showcase and even sometimes you'll find a gem in the blowout section. If when I do a second warmoth, I'll keep a closer eye on  the showcase...

Nice axe jmasin!!!  Don't leave us in suspense, details....Pickups, woods, etc....

Thanks!  Don't want to hijack the thread, but... want to answer.

* Swamp ash, bursted F & B, flame W Pro boatneck with Indian Rosewood, 6100 frets and a bone nut.
* Pickups are Fender CS "Fat 50's" which I took a leap of faith on and lucked out - just love em.  Very warm and mellow sound but still retains some strat qualities depending on tone/volume settings.  Very attack sensitive.
* RS Guitarworks cap/pots.

Here's the back so you can see the flame neck.  (oh and the whammy bar has a black tip now finally, those were older pics).
