Hi.
I want to build a Warmoth LP. I can't  decide if I want the 25-1/2" scale neck or the 24-3/4" Conversion neck. Which do most of you LP builders prefer?  Are there any special steps I would need to take regarding intonation if I were to use the 25-1/2" scale neck on a LP body? How many here have built a LP with the Fender scale?

There are many people who have built 25.5 scale LP's. It's all about the feel. Do you prefer the feel of LPs or strats?
No special steps in intonation.

I am actually more accustomed to the Fender scale length, but I suppose that a 24-3/4" would be more "authentic" for a LP body style.  On the Warmoth site, it lists "25-1/2" scale" for the LP body, so I didn't know if that mattered when considering their 24-3/4" Conversion Neck.

By the way; does Warmoth offer just a plain maple top for the LP body?  All I see on the options list is Flame, Birdseye, and Quilted.

i'm sure they could throw on a maple top if you asked. i'd email just to make sure. most of my questions i've emailed them about have been answered very very quickly.

and i definitely prefer the feel of a 25.5" scale myself, so i'd go with that personally.

No special consideration needed if using the 24 3/4 conversion scale neck.  It will set up and intonate just fine (I have built 2 Warmoth LPs with conversion scale necks and they set up perfectly).

On the LP we built for my son, we had it done a solid color but used a flame maple cap.  At the time that was the lowest option for maple.  They did not have any plain maple.  Never hurts to call and ask though.

In terms of setting up, there is no real difference. They both work equally well. Get the scale you prefer, my LP has a 24.75 scale because I like the feel. If you are really trying to capture a Les Paul feeling, I personally believe you need 24.75 for that, but if your only goal is a guitar that works for you personally, then get whatever works for you.

If I were to do it all again (and I may replace the neck someday) I'd go with the 25.5.

I don't think the 24.75 conversion really works the same as having a guitar built to be 24.75 scale. IMO, the pickups are in the wrong place.

I also have trouble playing the shorter scale. Not enough room up on the really high notes for me.
