First build. Heavy metal strat.

Even more painful: Ordering a tele neck pocket on your guitar, but ordering a strat heel on you neck... That would be the ultimate piss-off.

Wouldn't the "ultimate" be ordering a Strat neck pocket on the guitar but ordering a Tele heel on the neck? ;)

Actually, no. The strat heel will fit in both pockets, but the tele won.t:

Haha! Too funny! Time for coffee! French Press for me!  :icon_thumright:

Ok so I've gone ahead and bolted/screwed everything I was comfortable with together, and it's starting to feel more like an instrument and less like a bunch of parts.

The neck is on, so is the bridge. The tuners and pickup frames are still just sitting there, but I've gone and mounted/wired all the electronics now too - taking off the plastic connector did the job!

All that's left for the luthier is the pilot holes for the aforementioned, the enlarging of the jack hole, a couple of string trees, and the strap locks. I suppose I'll get him to set it up and give it a polish while I'm at it ha.

Picture attached with progress so far.

** And in the distance, from the far reaches of the deepest, darkest forest, a wild Cagey perks up his ears and looks menacingly over his shoulder. "String trees?!?" **  :laughing7:

That looks amazing, man!
It's going to turn out wonderfully  :icon_thumright:

Never gonna happen. String trees are one of Leo's kluges to compensate for poor workmanship on the nut. Past that, they serve no purpose and often work against tuning consistency, not to mention cluttering up perfectly good headstocks.

I must say, I only have two necks with string trees...
But mine are attractive  :laughing7:

String trees and I, we have a love-hate relationship  :dontknow:

...and not having string trees allows for great behind-the-nut bends with the b and e strings...

I'm with Cagey / Zuul on this one - string trees are ugly. I bought a Strat after searching for one that didn't have one, due to hating them so much. Wish my Tele and Pacifica didn't have them

Amazing how the little things cause so much grief - usually as they can be avoided!
