Finish on walnut neck question!

Looking for some expert advice here!  I recently purchased a solid black walnut tele neck and will be putting it on my latest warmoth ash tele project.  But was wondering how to best finish the neck.  I know that walnut is open grained, but I am not planning on a nitro finish - so no grain filler.  So, would anyone reccomend a BLO or tung oil finish followed by a caruba wax polish?  Would this be acceptable given the nature of walnut?  Help!  I am new to the world of oil finishes!

It is a Musikraft neck (which I have never tried) and I am hoping that the fit and finish of this neck is something to get excited about.  Hopefully the neck screw holes line up, etc!

Thanks-
Chad

Walnut grain is more open than maple but I would say it's closer to, say, rosewood than to mahogany. The pores are so small they don't really need to be filled. You could probably just treat it like maple. A simple nitro finish from a spray can would be the easiest to apply.
