Finish for Canary top?

Hey guys,

originally I wanted to use a blue-stained flame maple top for my strat project. But then I found this white korina with canary top and changed my mind. Love the figure in the canary. (see attach)

Would you recommend finishing this with nitro lacquer or better with oil or shellac? Also, do you have a recommendation for the light back? I was thinking of vintage amber with a brown/tobacco burst.

Would be happy to hear your recommendations.

Thanks,
koepernikus

amazing matched top! will be cool!  what type neck?  something dark chocolate color i hope.  thin finish for sure. no poly coat! whaterever you do. keep it classic and better with age.  good luck to ya and show those updates!
satin nickel hardware or gold?

Thanks, jrybicki. And the best thing: It was delivered today! The figure is really great, will only be putting a few layers of lacquer on to keep it as natural as possible.

I was thinking of black hardware, and I have a goncalo alves / pau Ferro neck from another project I wanted to do but didn't. We'll see how that works out. Will post updates in the build in progress forum.

If it were me, I'd black grain fill the back and then the old tru-oil sanding trick on the korina. Then a light tru-oil on the front and buff it back with some #0000 steel wool...

That's a bad ass body, love the canary... :headbang:

I'm not familiar with this technique. Do you have a link I could check?

While we're at it: I wanted to put a light yellow/brown burst on the back, so that that it matches the tone of the canary at the sides. Grain-fill then stain, or vice-versa?

There's a post in the DIY finishing section from Marko about it. I think he got it from LMII if I'm not mistaken...
