for the first time ever, this made me think about a possible future SG Warmoth build!

Damn I've never seen an SG like that, it kinda looks cool but I prefer the original SG design.

Thats not a Gibson, but a fake.

The "Gibson prototype" is fake, the serial numeber is fake.. its made to look right, but its not.

The tell tales are -
Neck construction.
The shape and length of the headstock where it blends into the neck - totally un-Gibson like
The body shape is not quite right.

But it is cool looking

I'm not so sure it is a fake... based on the neck anyway. Gibsons from that era had very different necks compared to earlier (and later) ones. The neck/headstock volute was more pronounced  (though not exactly like this one's) and they could easily be 3-piece construction.

It has the correct bridge and tuners for 1980, but the body shape doesn't look quite right to me either, though this could be because it's a custom prototype... or a Japanese copy.

I like that style...hm...that gives me some ideas.

But as cool as it is I agree, not worth $4,500

pretty cool - but I'm digging that explorer that slipped in there :icon_scratch: :icon_thumright:

There would have to be documentation with that guitar to convince me it was Gibby made

On the volute... they either had 'em, or not.  I've never seen one like that before, ever.

And, the pickups are changed, from what arguably were good pickups - Tim Shaw's re-PAF pickups, some say better than any that came later from Gibson.

Cream binding and pickguard and a nice T-burst on Maple can make anything look good.

How about T-Burst on Black Korina front and back, cream binding and PG, wenge/ebony neck? that could actually look good!!

I can't see that making any good guitar  :laughing7:

I saw an SG like this one many years ago in a small shop in Utah called Vintage Roocker. The guy that owned the stores' name was Jerry, a really nice guy. He had alot of rare guitars including a Fender Maurader which is only the second one I have seen the other is in the fender museum. Anyway the SG he had looked just like this one but didn't have a serial number and was marked "prototype" don't know if that makes this one real or not just sharing.
