I'm fussing about the wiring for the dual TV Jones Classic Filter'Trons I'm going to be building. A basic setup would be two knobs in a VV configuration. Then there's the HotRod with a single MV knob, 2 knob VT, Tone Pot 4 knob VVMVT, and the other variations.

Are there any Filter'Tron players here with words of advice regarding these different configurations?

Well...I had a 72 thinline style partscaster with a pair of TV Jones Classics as one of my only guitars for a while when I had pared my gear down. Standard Tele controls 3 way, master volume, master tone. The TV Classic Neck + Bridge are probably within about 10% of each other output and similar tonal response. Plus vintage style Trons are their own animal. Grit on the plain strings but a little dark on the wound strings like a typical vintage humbucker. That's actually why I moved on from that guitar. Fralin has a Tron design now they say is meant to bring brightness to the wound strings but I haven't tried it yet.

I don't see a pair of Classics playing like an LP or Tele custom where you'd want to keep the tone rolled down on the neck a lot and switch back and forth to the bridge at a different brighter or biting tone. At least I didn't. But I also tend to favor simple controls other than the occasional honking out of phase switching. I know you were also partly motivated by taking some weight out of the guitar though.

On that note the TV Jones are all 4 conductor but other than for phase switching I don't know why. The splits were too weak to be useful. If you were going with the Classic Plus or some other higher output bridge I could see 2V-2T 4 knob setup.

I’ve had 3 guitars with TV Jones Filtertron pups. MV VV T ( a Falcon), the Hot Rod version (in a Hot Rod), and a MV VV with a 3 way tone switch (in a Penguin).
In order of live play ability, the last wins. Honestly I could almost go ala a Ric style and just have a MV and 1 V on the neck to equalize it/ blend it in with the bridge in the middle switch.
