Filling dings is back of "rough cherry" neck?

I've got a few dings in the back of a LP Studio neck with a rough cherry finish and could use some advice on how to fill them.
They're distracting to feel when playing so I just want to fill them so my hand won't notice them.

I've got some brown LMI Micro-bead grain filler here. Would that work?
The color is close enough. No need to match the cherry as it's just about the feel of the surface.

Thanks!

Always steam dings high, and fill them if still needed.  Sanding down removes a lot of material... sanding necks is a bad thing, as it can introduce new stresses on the neck that were not a problem before the sanding took place.

Thanks,
I did find the tutorial about using the soldering iron and wet paper towel at frets.com

Filling if still needed ??? ... could be done with the LMI micro-bead?
