Figurated wood and solid gloss finish

What's the "ratio" of a figurated wood top under a solid gloss finish (black for ex.)?
I'm sorry but really I'm not understand... :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch:

I think I understand. Most Warmoth tops from what I can tell seem to be figured wood. So I imagine, their would be a high percentage of them under non transparent  gloss colors.

He might be referring to this: http://www.unofficialwarmoth.com/index.php?topic=12220.0

A figured (quilt or flame) top under a solid color. I don't think it happens too often.

"Ratio" is a Latin word.
Means "why", or "the reason"  :icon_thumright:
So, I asked: why Warmoth applied a gloss solid color on a figurated wood ???
Burst, trasparent are ok. But solid color....why?

I'm venturing a guess here but I think it might be bacause maybe the original dye or stain application didn't turn out so well or maybe because there is some sort of defect or other undesirable feature of the top that they make work but didn't end up that way. Or it could be an industry wide effort to rid the world of transparent red blue amber and bursted figured tops that are taking over the world.

It could be as you say, but I remember (and I think) that when a body/neck have a defect (a little defect too), that is immediately reported by Warmoth (with a substantial discount).
I don't know...
I can't find a valid reason

just throwing this out there, but

warmoth doesn't do plain maple tops, so maybe these bodies are for the people who want a maple cap but other core wood (like mahogany)? since they don't offer plain maple for anything but necks they might just use their lowest grade flame or quilted maple. just a thought. otherwise i would think it would be because of a mistake in the finish or maybe a defect in the wood

They may not offer plain Maple tops, but not every top is heavily figurated.  Hopefully a less figured top would used for a solid color.  If it bothers one so much, don't have a Maple top painted.  It's been opinioned to death before, but does a Maple top do anything besides look good anyway?
