Fighting the urge

When I built my last guitar I figured I would be good, I would be happy with just the guitars that I had.  Two is plenty right?  Nope.  The neck is still settling on my last build and I have already started dreaming again.  I have my tele with humbucker sized p90's and my tele with traditional pickups, but wouldn't it be nice to have a VIP with humbuckers?  Or maybe something with a tremolo?  Crap.

Or even a .....

I am just lucky there has not been any VIP's in the showcase lately.  The last time I peeked there was just one and it didn't float my boat.

It's a slow addiciton ... I stated out with one good acoustic and electric .. now I'm up to 14 and still building, and collecting .. the fun just never stops

I know all about "fighting the urge". The only thing preventing me from becoming a full-blown addict is other expensive hobbies/interests that suck up all my Warmoth money.

I have my next build planned to the last detail
Just with work how it is I have no time to even order the parts

I find merely trying to direct the urges in an attempt to coalesce them from a bazillion random ideas into a handful of worthwhile ideas about all I can manage to do, most of the time. Not that it isn't a noble goal, if you don't at least try, NONE of them will see the light of day (or stage)

A gross oversimplification, but focus/discipline (not to mention money) is one of the things that differentiated Edison from Tesla.

I've got plans too.

But that doesn't keep me from shopping randomly on the spur of the moment.  :icon_biggrin:

You and me, both. I deliberately went looking for my first Warmoth. I wanted to change bodies on a Fender whose color I couldn't stand. Ended up building a whole guitar and selling the Fender. Every one since then (11 more) has been a spurious buy/trade. Pretty sure all the future ones will be the same way. I don't have any serious plans. All I know is I don't have a Goncalo Alves neck yet, and that just seems wrong.

I am not even 100% done with my first full Warmoth build (custom Tele) and I am already having impure thoughts about a Walnut L5S with an Indian Rosewood top, double f-holes and a Bigsby B500 (in black) mated to a LP neck same wood choice (Ind. Rosewood fingerboard), etc. I have already been through the body configurator twice and the wheels in my head are gaining momentum. Will it happen? Depends on the economy and my personal financial situation. Assuming nothing takes a hard left turn before the end of the year, probable it is going happen before Spring. Plenty of time to think about it. Do I need a 3rd electric guitar? Yes. Beyond that, I don't know. That would cover my needs guitar-wise pretty well...

All that I've gotten so far is the neck for my first build, and already I have 6 more guitars planned  :icon_biggrin:

Now if only I could find some money...  :dontknow:

First things first actually.  Since I have two kids now, one of whom is now walking and getting into stuff, I have discovered that my current sitting in the living room on a guitar stand storage place is no longer safe for my guitars.  All of the bedrooms are now filled with children and my wife would kill me if I kept all my gear in ours.  Since my basement isn't finished I am going to put a rec room down there and then in the corner...
Man cave baby! :headbang:
I am going to have a 12' x 12' area to work with.  I can do anything I want with it since it will be just for my stuff.  On the practical side I need to have a desk, computer and my files but other than that its completely open.

COOL  :blob7:

12' x 12' plenty of home recording room  :icon_thumright:

GF and I just bought our first house. I'm still setting up my (also first) man-cave, but I've already come to the conclusion that it's drastically short on gear, especially guitars. What a wonderful problem to have.  :icon_biggrin:
