When I build a custom guitar I want it done right. no extra little holes in the pickguard.
I wasn't talking about drilling the pickguard. That wouldn't look good and it wouldn't do anything for you anyway. I meant add a center hole in the pickup. Since you have one you don't need to. Try running a screw into that hole. Baseplates are usually soft enough that they can be tapped with a screw. If not buy a tap. It's a few bucks. Still way cheaper than a custom pickguard. Since you're building a custom guitar why not have a custom pickguard as well. The cost difference isn't that great when you look at the overall expense of a custom guitar. You're looking at an extra 20 or 30 bucks for exactly what you want and it's plug and play. Seems like a no brainer. The other thing to consider is when most people build a custom guitar they don't use a stock fender humbucker. That's the reason your options are limited.
