Fender spec three-screw humbuckers

Both my humbucking Strats have the Fender humbuicker design with three adjustment screws so any change to the pickguard means I'd have to change pickups as well. Can't be too difficult for Warmoth to offer the 3-screw humbucker spec can it?

Take a look at the humbucker legs.  They may already have the extra hole you need to go with a two-screw arrangement.

When I build a custom guitar I want it done right. no extra little holes in the pickguard.

The middle hole is not threaded on my Twin Head and Shawbucker pickups. You can't screw into it. I have no idea why it's even there, other than to make people think it's a mounting hole.

Fender make Stratocaster pickguards in four different colours with the three-screw humbucker in the bridge position. There's no way to get hold of a well-machined pickguard with a three-screw humbucker in anything other than HSS config, in one of about four colours.

I just feel that for the amount of effort and expense to Warmoth to accomodate these pickups, it's a very easy option to add to the pickguard range. We are talking about a standard Fender pickup here, it's been in production for a long time and it's extremely difficult to get a replacement pickguard cut to fit.

I wasn't talking about drilling the pickguard. That wouldn't look good and it wouldn't do anything for you anyway. I meant add a center hole in the pickup. Since you have one you don't need to. Try running a screw into that hole. Baseplates are usually soft enough that they can be tapped with a screw. If not buy a tap. It's a few bucks. Still way cheaper than a custom pickguard. Since you're building a custom guitar why not have a custom pickguard as well. The cost difference isn't that great when you look at the overall expense of a custom guitar. You're looking at an extra 20 or 30 bucks for exactly what you want and it's plug and play. Seems like a no brainer. The other thing to consider is when most people build a custom guitar they don't use a stock fender humbucker. That's the reason your options are limited. If you fancy something a little different, try Scratch-It! UK-based and extremely good to deal with. Tim there is really helpful - the 3 hole mount shouldn't be  a problem.

Fender make also an HH as well as HSS for that 3 screw hole mount. Check their web site or Scratchit as suggested may be worth a look if you need something different.

I've nothing against as a suggestion Warmoth offering it as an option but if you need something now there are options.

I don't have a link, but it has been discussed on this forum somewhat recently. It's a little piece of metal about an inch long, with three holes in it. Hopefully someone else can chime in with the link to the vendor.
