I'm through with sperzel!!!! Through I tell you! I'm sick of paying out the ass for these tuners and them not being worth a shit!!!

Sorry, but "locking" tuners should do just that... Lock. I shouldn't have to worry about my strings slipping out of the tuner.

Lame!!!!

This is the third set that I've had problems with..

From now of it's schaller all the way!

End rant.  :icon_biggrin:

But three sets!?!?!  :(

It's truly makes me sad, because I LOOOOOOOVVVVEEEEEE the way they look, All three sets are that brushed chrome kinda look.

I don't mean to insult you, but is it possible that you might be using them incorrectly? Particularly if this is the third set. I've not heard of anyone  having a problem.

The problem I've been having is the strings slipping out of the tuners (usually when bending the strings) and I promise they're tight enough, on this last set I've been using pliers to tighten them, I never have string break issues so I'm not worried about that. I can always use needles nose pliers and reinsert the string and retighten.

But it's just a pain in the ass that I shouldn't have to worry about with these "quality" locking tuners ya know?

More to the point - never having used locking tuners but just general mechanical intuition - where is the string hole located when you start to pull tension? You shouldn't need lots of wraps, but the lock probably  won't hold the string if you're pulling straight without a half wrap.

It's horizontal, I start with a half wrap.

Idk what else I could do to remedy the problem.

Well technically I guess that would be a 1/4 turn... But by the time I have it up to pitch I have at least a 1/2 to 3/4 wrap on them.

i pull the string tight enough to pick it off the ground, then clamp the locker down.
i use schallers though, YMMV

I start with something like that.

I'm all schaller from now on.

Minus the PW that I'm about to try.

James - I'm with ya - the sperzel 'locking' tuners I have on my Warmoth XII slip like crazy... and this is a 12 string!  It's not like I'm bending the suckers or anything.

I actually have had the experience of tuning up, and the string slips as I turn the peg so much that the string does not go up in pitch!  It's bloody annoying.  Annoying I tell you!

I have PW tuners everywhere else - and they work.

AArrrggggg!

My 12 might be the first thing that gets locking tuners. For some reason it always seems like a lot more than twice the work.

That's music to my ears. I had W drill my newest neck for PW. It should be in for early Dec. Still a ways off =[

But if they're better than these I'll be even more exited.

+1. i've got one set and they work perfectly. if you've had three different sets i'd have to say it might be how you're stringing them. with one or two sets maybe, but three?

None taken... But I couldn't understand how I am.

yeah honestly you might be right. whether you're winding it several times or just pulling it through (like i do) it should work either way. anyway, i hope you find a tuner set that does work! i'm thinking about dropping locking tuners all together, but for a different reason. they're just too heavy!
