Moi, not lookin too happy today.

Over Christmas weekend, I noticed my eye was feeling like something was in it.  Then it would feel ok, then not then ok, then like something was crawlin in it.  This has gone on for a number of weeks, what... two and a half weeks.  So I finally suck it up, go over to the eyedoc today.  She takes a look, says I have a big ol' rust flake in my eye.  IN my eye.  Like embedded in my cornea.  So... she numbs it up with some drops, and sticks my face on the ol' slit lamp microscope and proceeds to dig it out of my eye.  She said it came out really easy (took like 2 seconds), and all in one piece.  Yay for me, cuz as she put it "no need for me to go diggin into your eyeball for it".  Wunnerful.  Then she said a nice little truism: That didn't hurt at all, but its gonna hurt plenty later on.  Now it feels like someone socked me in the eye, and it itches to boot.  The patch is a two day affair,  just to keep it clean and not exposed to the air.  Sigh.

Ok kiddies, what does this mean?  It means you and me and us and all of us - wear yer damn safety glasses, not eyeglasses, not sunglasses... but side protect safety glasses - even if you dont think there's a chance for a problem.

Not fun at all.  Just read between the lines!~

Dude, you're bummin' me big time. I hope an aspirin or something can ease the "kicked in the eye" feeling.

you look like a young version of my stepfather

Sounds rather painful, and I hated it when my contact lens somehow hurt my eye last night.

Quick recovery, CB!

(Most interest that's been had by an eye doctor for me is when they found a clear bubble in my eye. Apparently it's fascinating.)

Sorry to hear it!!!

I try to always wear the helmet, safety glasses and ear plugs on work... I like to see, hear and take a bath without help!

not safety glasses. Goggles!
in all my time cutting and grinding i have gotten less in my eyes with no protection than with glasses. why? most of the time without glasses i unconsciously see it coming and blink often the chip in my lashes. glasses give a false sense of security and the shards often bounce off the inside of the lens into your eye. it is more difficult to see it coming with glasses. goggles are the only sure way to block unwanted debris from your eye.

BTW you don't look old. compared to your face the gray beard hair looks as if it came in prematurely. i know with your experience you must not be young but if you shave you might fool somebody.

Ouch! Speedy recovery =CB=.

I had shingles in the right eye, a few years back and that hurt like hell for a  good two weeks. Had to go to an eye specialist regularly for 3 months & those eye pressure tests are the pits. Luckily I got onto the antibiotics in time to stop any permanent damage, but the eye does get tired quicker than the left one.

To be an eye specialist you'd have to be a sadist I reckon. A lot of their procedures are without any sort of anaesthetic and quite unnerving when you see an implement heading straight for your eye and the Dr. is telling you 'above anything else, DON'T MOVE.'

This doc I go to has a good bedside manner.  Doc did say I was unusually flinch free, but really... the light blinded me to her instrument on my eyeball, so there was no flinch reflex

There are quite a few things in life that I hope I never have to experience. Having something stuck into my eye is one of them.

We have goggles at my work, yes in a restaurant.  Reason being, we sometimes make Habenero salsa, and we have to put the habeneros in a food processor.  Don't want any of that flying in the old peepers!  Also, wear gloves, and wash well before using the restroom.  Dangerous stuff I tell you!  Hope for a smooth recovery for you =CB=!

When I was a little kid, either first of second grade I was in summer school and I met this kid with this big red dot to the side of his eye. He said he had gotten a chunk of sand in his eye or something like that. I thought that must have been really freaking painful, but he was fine. :dontknow:

I can't stand it when I get a piece of dirt or dust in my eye, it must be freaking horrible to have a rusty flake in there!  Hope your eye recovers soon CB.

i guess i forgot to say get better
i am bad at common courtesies
so i hope you get well soon

sorry to hear that, CB

I had the same thing happen to me once while on a bicycle. they used that flourecent stuff in my eye and scraped it off the cornea. I have this scar on my eyeball from it that you cant see by looking at my eye but If I look at the sky facing away from the sun I can see this squiggly line there.

Very sorry to hear about the incident.  At least you'll be right in a few days (weeks?)

Crap, sorry to hear that.  She says... it was outside my pupil area (just) and shouldn't effect vision, as the only time the iris opens that wide is very low light when you cant see for nuthin anyway, such as getting up at 3:30am to go pee, after the late night Drambuie-fest.  I think I can still do that, plus.. even when the @#$@#$ thing was in my eye, I could still see ok - bright light was painful though.

Hey thanks to all... everyone for the get well wishes.  It'll be ok in a few days.  No worse than having a splinter taken out of yer finger the doc told me.  I'm sure she knows her stuff.
