Explorer Bodies

Creeping Death

Okay I apologize if this has been covered I have been reading these forums for a long time and have one warmoth under my belt with more to come.

Now I know with the Gibson styled product removal we are seeing many new carve topped bodies to fill the void which I think is great, and I saw someone asked if LPS were coming back and they answered no sales were poor. So what I am wondering is if another version of the explorer is coming back? I feel that is a very popular body style but I may be wrong. Thanks in advance for any info.

I would doubt it, alas.  They had a lot that stayed in the showcase for a while (I drooled over them, but would never realistically have bought one), so I can't imagine they were all that popular - especially compared to the carve top LP.  I think I'm most disappointed they don't have an SG revision.  My brother was asking about getting of those built for him, but I doubt they'll come out with a new one of those either.

There are a few places that still do them, though:  KNE, this guy doesn't have any right now, but he's had them before, and there's been at least one example here.

Jackson Guitars do a variant of the Explorer shape & Jackson is tied up with FMIC - Fender (which Warmoth has a licence with, for certain copyrighted items).

But it would be a very long bow drawn to assume that Warmoth could simply copy the Jackson variant of the Explorer. I'd speculate, too,  that Warmoth would be very wary of getting even close to what Gibson has claims on, so even a variant would give them night sweats of a pending threat of legal action...

Yeah that's kind of what I figured too except in the 80's when ESP copied Gibson's Explorer exactly and was sued they came back with a very similar look. The ESP explorer is just a little sharper looking, more modern if you will. It is the closest replica without being exact from a major manufacturer yet they are still able to sell them. W could copy them being a Japanese company without any copyright issues correct? Kind of like how in Europe you can find all kinds of Gibby copies because the copyrights hold no power overseas? Just a thought.

So remind me the reason behind the change from the Jack-1 to the arcade(an FMIC lic. design.) and the reintroduction of the K style Hockey head ?(A Gibson owned design)..... :icon_scratch:

And for the love of sweet baby kittens, WHY is it not available in 24 3/4 conversion?

I've always liked the Kelly, it's got a better feel than Explorers.  I pretty much like any Jackson.. :guitarplayer2:

I'd say that only the good people at Warmoth could answer your enquiries about the change of design or the re-introduction of another... I was speculating (Words highlighted in Pink from original post in this Thread)...

Here's some sweet baby kittens though... (any excuse)  :icon_biggrin:

They do the V-K and the V-R which are straight Jackson copies so I don't see how it would be impossible for them to get the kelly but it would be cool to see a more straight up explorer type thing too.

ill throw my support behind wanting an explorer variant back. only because my brainstorm was to put together a goldtop explorer. but then I decided a strat was a good start. still think the GT explorer would be cool but understand if that body style is too infringing and not popular enough
