Equatorial Mahogany

Does anybody here know exactly what Equatorial Mahogany is?

I was given a piece and it seems way to light to be mahogany, but it looks like mahogany.

Is it just a spin on some mahogany-like wood?

Nope, he meant "Equatorial Mahogany"; it's a more generic terminology when African/Phillipine/South American mahogany may be used depending on which is available at a given time. I don't know if there is such a thing as "non-equatorial mahogany"

Sounds like clever marketing to me.  A quick google search for "Equatorial Mahogany" yielded mostly guitar makers.  Wikipedia yielded nothing except that mahogany grows in equatorial climates.  So bascially, what Jack said.

huge guess but they sometimes call nato wood "oriental" mahogany.... wondering if that neck is nato... it looks like nato, but looks can be tricky
