Most of you had seen the Emerald LP I made my son.  We he wanted to change the color...to ORANGE!!!!  BLAH!
I convinced him on a burnt orange and I think it it turning out well.  I sanded off the nitro and sanded off the green dye, leaving some of it in the deep pores for contrast ( an I was tired of sanding).  The Orange dye turned it black when applied.  I did some tests on a scrap.
here is the before:

After so far...

You can see a flaw in the wood just to the right of  neck PU.  This was a carved top body I got off the screaming deals for under $200.  I filled the flaw with grain filler and it is now smooth.  I think it add character.  BTW...it is completely covered by a pickguard.

I would prefer the green myself, but... that looks great! The contrast is excellent there. :cool01:

So did you do a chemical strip followed by sanding, or just sand it back to get the green off?

I, too, prefer the green, but I like how it blackened when the orange dye was applied.  The contrast is nice.

it was a toss up for me.  At least I left the Turtle green for memories :laughing3:

looks ever better in person.  Phone camera and bad light in garage.  Image it sitting my Marko's pool

I liked the green, but this one is nice too. it seems a bit too 'burned' for my taste, though. a brownish edge would have made it a gazilion times better, but this is very nice too. the defect is, well. great, actually. I like the shape and look of it :P and yeah, you got a major deal with this body! you snagged it right in front of my nose. if memory serves :D

Nice job! I think I would have built another one before I would have refinished that one, but that's just me being lazy. Refinishing is such a pain in the shorts...

I agree...on all accounts.  However this was "fun."  Sanding was a B!TC#.  Also being the 1st guitar I had to grain fill, I was not happy with the finish product.  Always bothered me a little.
